Hi all,

Dr. J has my 4 year old son trying Mepron for a month along with his other abx because we suspect he could have babesia.

His tests have been negative, but some nights I notice night sweats (not every night). He has also become more ornery in the last month after he had been improving last month.

He has taken Mepron for about 5 days now and the past 3 nights his sweating has been worse than ever. The sweating is mostly in his head. His insomnia seems to be a bit worse than normal and when I talk to him in the middle of the night he is oppositional and grumpy like he used to be before treatment.

I am trying to determine if this is a herx or a side effect from the Mepron. It will help determine whether he truly has babesia.

What were your or your children's reactions to Mepron?

Thanks for your input,

Hi tickbattler.  I am sorry your little guy is going through such a hard time.

To me it sounds like he is herxing.  Three to five days into treatment is when many people herx on Mepron.  Increase in sweating after starting Mepron is definitely a Babesiosis symptom.  He may be grumpy because he has in increase in symptoms.

It sounds like Babesiosis to me, so it is good he is being treated.  I hope he feels better soon.

Thanks ticker - that really helps to hear it is a common herx.
