There was a post awhile back asking about IVIG but I do not see it. Has no one here done IVIG for immune deficiency or Lyme?? Just want some information, if you noticed an improvement or not. Thanks  D

Hey Dowa,

I'm scheduled to start this at the end of the week. My doctor said he used it his entire career (40+ years) and always got good results with it. He sent me to a specific pharmacy for it and the pharmacist who knew the doctor told me he gets really good results using IG. I guess I should say that I'll be using IMIG.

After doing some research on it, the premise seems very logical for its use in any case where some covert infection may be the cause. I'm almost surprised its not more often used by doctors given what it is. I'll let you know how I do on it.

Hi Chris: I did the IG IM for six months and my levels are still out of range. That is why the IV now. Are your IgGs low or are the injections to conquer the Lyme?? Thanks-

Hi Dowa,

My previous home care nurse received IVIG every 10 days for mitochondrial deficiency, serious neuropathy, etc. She had serious Lyme at one time.

She felt it was a tremendous help and I have been told by other nurses that administer the IV to patients that it is very successful. I have been told that it must be approved by a neurologist and that it is very expensive.

So my information is from word of mouth, not experience.

Dowa - I always enjoy your questions and comments.

My doc is giving it to me for the Lyme and whatever else my be lurking in my system. Even though my numbers tested low normal, he feels my immune system is not working correctly. He tested me for EBV and I was pretty high on that (even though 90% of people have it) and actually showed an active infection. I've never had mono.

Did you feel any benefit from the IM shots? I'll be getting my PICC in very soon and if you felt no effect from the IMIG, then I might ask him if we can just go IVIG with the ABX.

Chris: Why do you need the PICC line if it is IM injections?

I'm getting the PICC line for ABX anyway, so that is why I might ask him if I should just go the IV route with IG instead of IM.

Gee, I think if I was you, I would ask him to do the IV if you have the line anyway. I spent 6 months and $5,000. cash  on weekly injections without much improvement. I have my 2nd blood test next week and I will know by Dec 1 if I was born immune-deficient. It would explain alot.  Good luck Chris- D
