I take my Doxy at 8am-ish and 8pm-ish.  I take my vitamins and probiotic around 1pm with lunch... is this okay?? I also have a yogurt in my shake at lunch... should I take more than 1 probiotic pill a day?

Hi baileygirl76! You are doing OK in my opinion. Take probiotics at least 2 hours away from antibiotics so that the drug does not kill them all before they can do you some good! The dosage depends on the original "strength" of the brand you are taking. Some people start out slowly per day--only a few billion cfu's per day, and then build up to 50 billion cfu's per day or more. Some brands can give you 50 billion colony forming units in one dose or one pill, while other brands may only have 2-7 billion per dose. You would have to take a lot more of the "weaker" brand to equal the dose you get in the "stronger" brand. Try to take a brand that has at least 8 different strains of good bacteria in it. Too much of just one strain is not recommended. The more types/strains you have, the better chance of being "balanced". Ask your llmd or naturopath for suggestions. There are many brands to try. Sometimes new consumers of the probiotics get a little diarrhea at first when they try probiotics, but this usually stops as their body adjusts. Best wishes on a speedy return to health. bablymers mom

I have heard that you cannot have too many probiotics. I give them to my children 3 times/day. It is best to take them 2 hours apart from the abx, but sometimes I manage about 1.5 hours apart. I figure this is better than not at all! They take their meds with breakfast and dinner so I give probiotics immediately upon their waking and then right before bed, as well as during lunch.
