Seems alot of us on here have dearly loved dogs that are really sick and or dying of lyme. Loosing their teeth, and going lame. question....how many of you use a tick repellent like Front line for your animals? And did you know for a fact that your dog was treated and he or she still got lyme?
My dog got it when he was a puppy. And I cannot remember if he had front line on at that time or not.

I love dogs and am very sad to hear about yours.

Hopefully the vets are more knowledgeable than the human doctors.

I have found ticks on my dogs when the Frontline is wearing off -- at about 25 days or so. I don't have any answers -- interested in what others have experienced.

I do use Frontline faithfully every 30 days but have still found ticks attached. I check them every day and if I let them on top of my bed (only!) I put down a white blanket so I can see any black specs. They are small and it is a king size bed and it is so nice sometimes to just lay there quietly. They think they have gone to heaven. Those cotton blankets get washed every week too. Geeeezzzz, I think I am nuts.

You all know my dogs story, but yes I used Frontline as well. I lived in the mountains in NH and there are ticks everywhere. Treatment did not seem to help him, I think he had had it for too long when diagnosed. I used to sit for hours and pick the ticks off of him, seems there isnt a bird or reptile that eats them. Do you know??

we use Scalibor Protectorband, it seemed to work quite good; better / more effective than Frontline as it seems; it also keeps the sand-fly away..... everybody here is also very afraid of Leishmania ....

Marie - Sorry to hear about your dear dog Toto succumbing to it. That is a tragedy worse than most things i can imagine.

My dog is as healthy as they come -- the little one.

But my big one has had a few ticks and has slowed down. She goes for her annual and they always test for Lyme and they both have had the vaccine.

No problems for dogs if they get tested early and vaccinated. Heck the dog vaccines and treatments are better than humans!!!

hi martha`s

you get it from the vet or you can buy it at the farmacy (hope I did not break forum rules here by mentioning it by its name ?!), you use it as a collar; it is a band with the agent on it and you cut it the size of the dogs neck and put it on; I think you can google it;

leishmania is transmitted by the bite of sandflies, they are protozoan parasites who leave the blood circulation quickly after the bite and then live as intracellular parasits; cure: unknown.....till today; abx if it breaks out, but there is no real healing available it can only be held under control;
even people can get it; its all over the mediterranean area where we have an increase of infected children; but it is not only there; it is really scaring !!!
take care!

Can a vet test for lyme in humans, my dogs get excellent care. I`m not getting anywhere with Dr`s. Pretty sad that someone would have to consider this.

Ive already talked to my dogs (PUG) vet. Im having her teated in a few weeks. She doesnt seem to have any symptoms yet. She's still acts like a rascal! My dogs vet seems more knowledgeble about lyme than any human doctor I ever seen. He also has lyme, so he relates. Should I ask him to be my doctor also? Probably should.

my dog and i both got sick last summer, at the same time!

me, with lymes for the third time, and he with rocky spotted tick. he had his shots for the lymes and also the frontline. my vet told me the good thing about the tick was that he would never get it again. he had to be on antibiotics for 30 days.

DONT GET THE LYME VACCINE FOR YOUR DOGS...
IT GIVES THE DOGS LYME
SOME OF MY NEIGHBORS GAVE IT TO THEIR DOGS AND NOW THE DOGS CANNOT WALK, AND ONE NOW BITES AND HAS GOTTEN REALLY MEAN.
AND HE ALSO WILL NOT GET UP
MY DR. IN GERMANY FREAKED WHEN I TOLD HIM THAT THE VETS WERE GIVING IT TO THE DOGS.
BECAUSE IN HUMANS IT MADE THEM SICK.
IT WAS TAKEN OFF OF THE MARKET.
MY VET DID NOT GIVE IT TO HIS DOG.
PISSES ME OFF THAT THEY ARE GIVING IT TO OUR LITTLE FRIENDS WHO DEPEND ON US FOR THEIR HEALT, AND THAT VETS DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING.

2 TIRED FOR 30
HA....I TRIED THAT ALREADY..LOL
NO THEY WILL NOT SEND THE HUMUNS SAMPLES AS A DOG...BUT I HEAR YOU
THEY GAVE MY TOTO THE DOXY FOR HIS LYME AND HE DID NOT IMPROVE.
THEY GAVE A 15 POUND DOG THE SAME AMOUNT THAT THEY GAVE ME AT 150 POUNDS.

PUT COLLIDAL SILVER IN THEIR WATER BOWLS....
I AM GOING TO PUT IT IN MY DOGS BOWLS FOR ALL PRESENT INFECTIONS.
IT IS ALL NATURAL AND IS GOOD FOR THEM
AND IF THEY TURN BLUE THEN I WILL GET THEM A BLUE COLLAR TO MATH...HEHEHEHE
KIDDING!
