I had the western blot test done through IGX.  The results came in however, I was told by the nurse that the Dr. would have to be notify and they would have to call him and have him come into the office so he could call me and tell me the results......Is this normal procedure?  My Dr. works at 2 different offices.  Thanks

Hi Strengthenme.  Yes, it is normal for doctors to go over results.

I highly recommend that you get copies of your results.  If you need help interpreting them, let us know.  No test for Lyme is completely reliable.  Be aware that the CDC requires several bands to be present on the Western Blot for it to be considered positive.  Many people who have Lyme do not have this many bands.  Lyme doctors look at which bands are present, some are specific for Lyme.

Ticker,

So, When IGX sends the results to the Dr, they won't say whether the results are negative or positive?

Hi Strengthenme.  The result of the tests is on the information that is faxed to the doctor.  It will say if it is positive or negative.  But remember even if the test is negative, your results can still be signifcant depending on what the bands show.

Hi Ticker,

I just thought it was odd that the nurse didn't tell me what the results where, she could have told me if it was positive or negative, on blood that I've had the nurse always told me what the results where....

I think with all the new HIPPA rules, etc. the docotr offices are very careful about releasing info. over the phone and/or allowing anyone else except the dr to give the results.
