Hi All! Well I guess I should start off with a little background of myself. I was diagnosed with Lyme Disease in July of this year (2008). I was basically diagnosed by the "bulls-eye" rash. They were very skeptical at first because I live in Iowa, and not many cases of Lyme Disease are reported here each year. They put me on Doxycycline (sorry if it's misspelled) and said to come back if the rash did not go away. The rash started disappearing about a week after I started my antibodics and my symptoms seemed to improve. However about 2 weeks after I was done taking the medication. I started noticing symptoms again. And ever since then, they have become worse. I have good days and bad days. One day I can wake up feeling refreashed, others, I will sleep 10-12 hours and then more after that, my joints will hurt so bad I can barely walk. My headaches have come back, I never feel fully rested. I returned to the doctor, and with in some many words, don't believe me, and have done nothing. Just tell me to come back if my condition worsens. I don't want to seem like I am bashing my doctor, I just simply think they don't know much about Lyme Disease. So I guess this is where I ask for advice. Where do I go from here? I don't feel like the antibodics worked, it seems like my doctor thinks it's all in my head, and I can't go on living feeling this way! I want to get a referral to the University of Iowa Hospital but I feel lost, I don't even know where to begin! If anyone can offer any advice it is much appericated! Thanks for everything ahead of time. Best Wishes, Rosebert

God I'm so sorry they won't listen. This certainly the period when time is of the essence. There would be no harm in them giving you six weeks doxy to see if it clears.

My story is EXACTLY like your's. I went for several months deteriorating just like you. It is no fun to be a bystander to the things your body is telling you. THE DOCTORS DIDN'T CARE. I was referred to therapy A LOT! I have severe crepitus in virtually every joint. I saw about 10 more doctors and declined until I found a Lyme specialist. I'm currently on Biaxin and Doxy. I think it's working "some". Everyone is different. I have short term memory problems and a constant "flat" mood. I have floaters and flashing in my eyes.

Are you close to Chicago? I think there might be Lyme doctors there. You need a Lyme specialist. I recommend . Go there and then scroll down and click contact us link.

E-mail them about a doctor in Iowa. They should get back to you soon.

Aggressive gantibiotic treatment is controversial, but it's the only option conveniently available now. Others go the natural route with success. I've heard of a guy in Germany that treats with photobionics. I have no idea what that is but would require a long stay in Germany.

Everyone is different. You may end up getting well quickly. I recommend you find a doctor who doesn't mind prescribing the antibiotics to see if can't clear being that you're only a few months sick.

Good luck! Please keep us posted on your progress.

BTW, this is going to sound strange but if you can't get a hold of some real green tea, it supposedly has antibiotic properties.

Fresh garlic does too. Just mince a clove and add it to your salad dressing or spaghetti sauce.

Take care.

Hoping for a cure

PLEASE READ- Top 10 lyme disease treatments by Brian Rossner, Cure Unknown by Pamela Wintraub, and watch Under our Skin a Lyme disease documentary on the politics of lyme and why many people are misdiagnosed and undertreated. Please don't waste time with a doctor that is not Lyme Literate-GO TO ILADS.ORG for a referral. Do not go to someone that follows ISDA/cdc guidelines. The longer you wait for proper treatment the more chances of it becoming chronic and uncurable like it has for me. It took 1 year and 100k for me to get diagnosed and treated properly but it was to late since it spread throughout my body affecting my heart, eyes, kidneys etc..

Please get checked for co-infections by Igenex labs People that don't get better from lyme treatment usually have a coinfection that has to be addressed first. Also if you have bad lyme or mold detox genes you will not get better until you detoxify properly. (check out dr. Richie Shoemaker's work- I am currently taking Dr. Zhangs artemesia ( for babesia and will continue the lyme treatment with his herbs and possibly flagyl.

Take care,
