It's good to bring a witness along to your doctor appointments. No one was believing me when I would describe how horrendously I was being treated. Then, my husband started going with me. He can't believe how I was treated. I always bring him with me to meet any "new" doctor.
Man, we had a huge learning curve with LD and the medical system. I was told for 13 months straight that I was severly depressed, all my symptoms were "in my head", since I was depresssed, etc. etc. my pain was "exaggerated". And then I tested positive for LD. Man oh man I wanted to go back to every doctor and say "IN YOUR FACE" (well, I would have worded that stronger, but the moderators are on me like white on rice).
THEN - I got the run around of infectious disease doctors and rheumatologists saying that my test results were a "false positive" - HUH?
We can't win with this disease. And the prize if we do win? Antibiotics. It makes no sense. Before testing we're all depressed and psychosomatic... after we test positive, they're "false" results..... Like we're going to say, "You know what Dr.? You are right. I am very depressed... these symptoms are made up. There is NO WAY those test results are correct. Please prescribe psychiatric medications for me... see you next month!"
Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has. - Margaret Meade
