I had a nurse over this week for the first time to give me an ABX IM shot and was discussing my treatment.  I told her if this didn't work I was headed for IV treatment.   She told me about an option called a "Chem port" that goes on the chest and is inserted under the skin.  She told me many of her IV patients have this and it is the most sanitary and easy to care for option.

Anyone on the board have this option instead of a PICC line?  If so, can you share your experiences???   Thanks!

Which insurance company will cover a chem-port? Most of us couldnt even get a PICC line, we only got a mid-line? Best Wishes whichever way you go

Marthas Vineyard that posts here and is at Envita in Scottsdale had that done at the clinic. She said initially it "knocked her off her butt" from the surgery but recovered. I know you cannot get it wet so I dont know how you bath, etc. Hopefully she will see your post and give you an update.   D

By Chem Port, are you referring to a Port-o-Cath (a venous access port surgically implanted into a vein such that none of the port is exposed above the skin surface; requires a needle poke into the port for access)?
