I am on Benicar and minocycline to start treatment. I have only been on them for 3 weeks.

My docor uses Benicar to reduce inflammation and open uo the blood vessels so the antibiotic to penetrate bette. He said the Benicar potentiates the antibiotic, making it nearly as powerful as IV.

He does not believe in Vitamin D restriction (as does the MP).

He is slowly replacing my low Vitamin D level with 2,000 units per day. he said giving a large dose once a week can cause calcium to precipitate into the joints, causing pain. He like to go low and slow to start all meds.

I am currently on Benicar 10 mg 2x per day. My BP is about 106/60 (+/-) I am supposed to go up to 20 mg 2x per day, but I am not so sure I will get there...

The Benicar is supposed to minimize the herx reaction as it is due to inflammation from the die off of the spirochete. Makes sense to me. The blood vessels being open allows the toxins to be removed easier.

How low has your BP gotten?

I hope this helps.

My lowest bp was 99/60 early on. I feel it has compensated and I feel no ill effects from the Benicar.

My doctor is Dr. M in Rockville, MD. I will have my 3rd visit in January.

My main symptom is dizziness with off balance feelings. He said the mino will be "for months" when my husband asked. I was bit in 1994. 14 years of this- off and on.

I am on the lowest dose of mino fro now- 50 mg. He is going very slow, as I seen to react when given antibitocs. Since beginning 3 weeks ago, I have had fluctuating body temps- from 95.2 to 99.3. Also had an episode of a high heart rate of 131 just sitting here! That happened once before on antibiotics and the doctor thinks it was a herx-type reaction. Now I have a headache, stiff neck and mild fever. I feel like I have a mild flu, with the above and some mild body/bone aches.

I also tested positive for rare Bartonella. We will add Zithromax a bit later for that.

Who/where is your LLMD? Are you on the Benicar for BP or Lyme?

I have been using dr F in New Jersey, and its a nightmare reaching her office, she is nice a great doctor but takes a long time to get to her, I am on Benicar and Coreg for high blood pressure, I developed High Blood Pressure and Diabetes with Lyme Disease, I am seeing a nephrologist tomorrow, hopefully he will maybe cut the doseage for the Benicar or delete the Coreg, the problem is I got used to the relaxed feeling when I am on Benicar and my pressure only goes up slightly but my pulse goes way up, I was on Mino for about 9 months it was difficult because it caused lots of cognitive issues but I got much better after that

seeingstars-

Sorry, I just saw this.

I had a smear done at Fry Labs. They are calling the bacteria they see "hemobartonella", but my doctor feels it is Bartonella. Since it was a blood smear, there is no strain reported.

Judy-

I do notice that when you search benicar and mino, the Marshall Protocal comes up. The guy behind this Protocal is not an MD, but an electrical engineer. My LLMD says he is smart, but doesn't understand it all from an MD's point of view and education.

Restricting sunlight and Vitamin D just cannot be healthy in the long run. It is probably the combo of Mino and Benicar that makes the difference for these people.
