This past week I have been dealing with what is looking like GERD. It's a very bad case of GERD though, giving me cardiac-like symptoms in my chest, sternum, arms, back, etc. I have horrible reflux, so that's the only thing anyone can come up with.

I have never had problems this bad, so I'm wondering if any of you guys get this too?

my dad did! the acid was coming up the esophagus and landing in his trachea causing bronchial spasms(very hard to get air in or out)...very scary! he started on prevacid and it made a world of difference! (it is a prescribed med)

Hi Cheryl,

I was taking Prilosec, and it was helping, but all of a sudden it just stopped working for me. This week has been extremely stressful, not knowing if it's from Lyme, GERD, or something else. All these symptoms overlap it seems.

I had a lot of gerd symptoms. For me the main cause was a very bad H Pylori infection. Also made worse from time to time from food allergies.

Hope you feel better soon.

Hope you feel better, I have terrible GERD and it gets worse when I have an active Lyme "episode." I can't go a day without Nexium.

Thank you Kandinsky and NorthLover!

Kankdinsky, when I was having bad gastritis in June, they did an H. Pylori test which was negative, but I don't know if the blood test is reliable or not?

Hi Ria,

I haven't tried Nexium yet. So far the doctor has me on 2 Prilosec per day, plus a Zantac before bed. The symptoms don't budge for me. I will have to try Nexium.

I saw my PCP today, and he said he didn't think I was dealing with Angina or anything, even though my symptoms are similar. My cholesterol and all that is good, so he said I am very low risk. Now, he knows nothing about Lyme or it's co infections, so he said he didn't know what affect that may have on my risk.

Maybe consider your Gall Bladder....My GERD is that.  Finally figured that out after 3 yrs of Nexium.  Has to have the HIDA scan to tell for sure.

Nexium can cause some heart issues, and with the palps I was having we took me off the Nexium.

I was just thinking Gallbladder tonight. My mom had hers removed after having a lot of problems. It's so hard to tell what's Lyme and what's something else, and if it's caused by Lyme or not. It makes for such a complex case. I'll have to see if I can get my doctor to order a HIDA scan to see.

I think it is easier for it to come up at night b/c i am laying down! It is very uncomfortable!!! I also have a lot of shortness of breath and i think they are all related! Oh this all stinks that is all I have to say about it! Ohonemore thing my food , water, meds whatever always gets stuck in my throat! It is almost like really bad muscle spasms! Ok that is my two bits!!!

Everyone Take Care,

My wife had acid reflux. It went away when she started taking fiber. Fiber may help your situation. Sometimes the simple solutions are the best.

I find if I take my prilosec first thing in the morning and wait 1/2 hour before eating it works MUCH better.

I had horrible Gerd-from bart, better now, but it can also be from yeast.
