Hi all, I hope everyone is having happy holidays. Quick question. Have any of my fellow Lyme sufferers suffered from a Candida infection? If so what kind of protocols have you taken to control it?

Hi Jenisis,

I had a candida infection before I even knew I had lyme. Before all the abx. I started treating that about 9 months before I discovered I had lyme. I took diflucan for a few weeks then took grapefruitseed extract and oil of oregano after that. O of O is one of the best herbals for candida. Garlic is also good as well as caprylic acid and pau d arco. I had to drastically change my diet. No sugar, white flour, white pasta, potatoes, or alcohol. Basically just ate meat, eggs, fish, chicken, nuts, lots of veggies and plain organic yogurt.

I felt much better after getting the candida under control. I mistakenly thought it was my only issue!! But then kept crashing and discovered the lyme too. Candida can make you miserable. It's best to keep it under control.

That being said, I did over indulge in all of the above this Christmas!! So now I have to be good and start eating better again.

Hope you had a great Christmas too!!

Thank you so much. I just started truly attacking the candida 2 days ago because unfortunately, it made me constipated...which is when I started researching the symptoms. I have almost all of them, especially the tired drunk feeling after eating sugars and carbs. I am also following the same diet as you, and while I feel my body trying to fix the issue, do you think I can allow myself to have a drink and eat good food for New years? After that, I'll hit the high protein trail again. I'm also taking OOO,digestive enzymes, garlic and yogurt. I guess I'm going to have to grab a bit of caprylic acid, and pau d arco. How long before you could tell the difference, and were you bloated, and did you ever get constipated? Thank you so much for your response.

I'm in a similar situation as you guys.   A doctor before I was dx with lyme showed I had raised levels of candida.  I continued to pursue lyme, got dx, then began treating it.  Now my LLMD has me treating lyme and candida.  1 month of diflucan for candida, then 2 months of lyme antibiotic.  Then repeat.  Lyme antibiotic is either minocycline or biaxin.

I'm curious as to what are y'all's major symptoms since we have a pretty similar infection situation. Mine are 1) head and neck pain (headaches/stiff neck)  2)light sensitivity (eyes)  3) joint pain (wrists and ankles)

Jenisis,

It's up to you if you want to have a drink on New Year's. I had a few on Christmas along with some desserts and felt the pain for a few days!! It's hard at this time of year not to indulge. You are at the beginning of treatment, so it shouldn't be too bad if you indulge a bit. As long as you get back on track and stay there in the new year.

I felt a difference after a few weeks if I remember correctly. I did have a big herx for the first few weeks due to the diflucan I was taking. Then felt so much better. I didn't understand herxing at the time, but figured it out after!

Chief,

My major symptoms now are brain fog, memory issues, loss of coordination, fatigue and anxiety. A have just a bit of muscle and joint pain, but only when I don't eat well. I have been in treatment for almost two years now and most of my pain issues have been resolved thank goodness. Also the major flu like feeling and heavy arms and legs feeling are also gone.

Thank you twingirl, I guess I'll deal with the repercussions.

Chief,

My Lyme issues are brainfog, pain, irritable bladder, vertigo, and muscle spasms.

Mt Candida list is much greater. If you look up Candida, I have about 95% of the symptoms. I'm working on fixing it now.

huh.  Ok, thanks for the responses.  Its just so hard for me to separate between lyme and candida.  I feel like lyme is my major problem and candida is just a teeny piece of it.  You guys hang in there and get better..

Chief,

The symptoms of lyme and candida overlap. Sometimes its difficult for me to tell what is causing my problems!!! I agree with you that lyme is my major problem and candida is a side issue.

Let's all get better in this New Year!!

chied #7 - The symptoms you describe are prtty much what I'm left with.  The head and neck pain (about 15 month now), occasional light and sound sensitivity, and wrist/hand pain... I think my ankle pain might be due to the Levaquin, but it's not severe and resolves after a few hours (in the morning).
I'm going to see about the neck/head pain today with my pain mngmt. doctor.  I don't want pain meds, I want the pain gone!  I'm going to see if an Xray is in order and then if it's not "bone" related or a slipped/bulging disc, I'll take it from there.
All the best.
