I woke up at 3 am with my heart racing and could not get it to slow down. Is this a Lyme symptom and what works to quiet it? It went on for hours and nothing helped. What causes this to occur with Lyme, the toxins? What do you all do to relieve it? Thanks  D

I have only had this when I took Biaxin for a sinus infection (Lyme was undiagnosed at the time) and again last week after 2 weeks on the minocycline. My heart rate went to 132 just sitting here. The other day, it went to 121.

I make sure to drink plenty of water, but mine only lasts a few minutes.

Hi Dowa,

I've had this. I'm not sure what causes it, but I usually just try to do deep breathing and drink some water.

Bartonella and lyme are the first two that come to mind. Treat them and the heart symptoms will slowly fade away.

Hi Dowa...

My doctor said this could be normal because this is also happen to me. BUT I also have Grave's Disease so it could be the lymes that is playing havic on my Graves. I have to get up and sit in a chair I end up sleeping in the chair because I cant settle in the bed again.

Good luck to you...

Happy New Year.

This was one of my first lyme symptoms, palpations and orthostatic hypotension, which got better, I recently had a reaccurance which was due to a hyper active thyroid, I will be retested for Lyme Disease and I also was tested for Cortisol Issues ( Cushings Disease) and Adrenal issues.

if it gets to bad you can ask if you can take a drug called toprol. I take that along with synthoid

This used to happen to me a lot. It was very scary, but nothing bad actually ever happened. It is from the lyme. I sometimes would take an atavan (sp?) just to calm it down some, but if you lay there long enough it will start to slow down. I don't know why it happens but I do know it is caused by the lyme. Almost like waking up in a panic attack mode, but it does go away with treatment.

This was one of the 1st symptoms I noticed of Lyme but of course didn't know I had it then. My heart races due to anxiety and it scares me. I usually try to calm myself down and drink some water like everyone has mentioned.

It is a side effect of Biaxin, if you're on that. It also is a Lyme complaint.

Hope this helps.

Please don't reply on drugs to mask the problem. You need to get to the root of your medical problems and the reason for them in the first place. I have Lyme and also have heart racing all the time, listening to calming music usually helps while trying to goto sleep or rest. If I just took drugs to mask the problems I would literally be on at least 40 pills or more a day. Good luck
