This CRP (c reactive protein) was done on me to see if there was inflammation in my body and strangely it came out negative. Do any of you know if this test is at all useful in a Lyme diagnosis? Thanks D

Dowa-

I posted something awhile ago asking about crp. It is my OPINION that if you have bart it inhibits your inflammation marker. It has been stated by Dr. S that barts biotoxins shut off the immune system and the inflammation system. I in the early stages of getting help had high crp. As time went on and I wasn't targeting the bart, even tho I'd swear I had swelling in my neck and head, my crp was always normal.

Hope this is useful.

SS: Thanks. I also have the swelling in my neck and along the back of my head. Did you ever get sores along the swelling? Mine swells and then I get these little red sores (sometimes itchy). Does that sound like a bart symptom.? I have no LLMD.

My doctor says the CRP and ESR is not an accurate inflammation indicator for Lyme.

He loosely uses the ratio of 25 Vitamin D and 1,25 Vitamin D to indicate inflammation.

Dowa-

I don't get the sores much anymore, but I did get sore pimple like bumps on the lower part of my head. I believe it is a manifestation of bart. Are you treating with anything? I know you said you don't have an llmd but I am concerned for you. This stuff sucks.

Who did the crp for you? How often do you get the swelling feeling? mine is about twice a month. I've stopped journaling because it gets so depressing. I just want to live my life. I should probably start up again tho so I can see the progress. I think it is finally happening. But the next flare up will tell.

SS: I see a doctor at an environmental clinic. He did the CRP because I kept getting chest pain, but it was negative. My igenex came back IND and he did not think I had Lyme. Then Fry Lab showed bart but he is questioning Fry Lab now... and on and on and on. You know how that goes. I call it the Lyme merry-go-round. (: I get the swelling and sores about every 3-4 weeks or so and they are just like you said, at the bottom on my head. He was thinking it was something hormonal until I told him that I read that Lyme symptoms come up every few weeks, like they do. Its a puzzle and Im getting tired of it all.  I feel like we should not have to convince a doctor that we are ill. I am in Texas and am told there are NO llmds here. Thanks   D

My CRP is always normal, but my ESR has been as high as 102 (normal is <20 for women). Interesting that the Lyme and/or coinfections may shut down the inflammatory markers...that may explain why the CRP is normal for me even in the setting of obvious inflammation.

Razzle: It is interesting, I have alot of inflammation also. May I ask, what is ESR? I am not familiar with that one. Thanks  D

Dowa,

ESR stands for erythrocyte sedimentation rate and it is a test used to detect inflammation in the body. Here is a link that may help explain it better: http://www.medicinenet.com/sedimentation_rate/article.htm

Thank you , I am familiar with sed rate, just never heard the erythocyte put in there, here they just call it sed rate, unless there are two types. Mine was 5, normal.  D
