I know exactly how you feel. They do the same thing to me. The drs tell me take some pain meds, see you again in 4 months! Well what am I suppose to do in the mean time just get sicker without treatment while you decide what you want to do. The drs need to wake the **** up and realize how serious this is. We need to find a way to hold them accountable for brushing us aside while we get farther into disability. After 6 years I gave up and became my own dr. I am now on long term antibiotics for lyme that I order online.

How about we make a list for non lyme literate dr's to save people the aggravation. You know the ones that you goto and they tell you that your just crazy or that your just depressed.

Let's get started on a NLLMD list!!

Hi KeepHope and everyone else,

First, I would buy Dr. Jernigan's book called "Beating Lyme Disease" and really read it as well as Healing Lyme by Stephen Buhner.  Secondly, I would send for the free packet of information from the Hansa Center (Dr. Jernigan and Dr. Joseph) which you can obtain by calling:

316-686-5900

I personally do not believe in long term antibiotics as I believe they do more harm than good.

As I suggest to everyone, read as many books as you can, research the internet and become your own advocate.

Hope this helps!

Denise

Denise - I'm addicted to antibiotics. What a strange thing to be addicted to. Not many people like me going to 12 steps and all and standing before the group saying

My name is HopeForCure and I'm addicted to antibiotics.

Anyways, all kidding aside, what dangers to long term use of antibiotics pose.

I'm taking probiotics millions per day.

What can I expect when I'm off? Most people claim a backwards slide into hell.

If you go to Envita, bring LOTS of money as they told me $30-45,000.00 for 4-6 weeks. Then you have your hotel bill, they dont have their own housing at the clinic.

There's a place in Germany where people go for photobionic treatment. If it were a cure though, don't you think we'd all be booking flights right now?

I spent nine weeks going to Progressive Medical Center in Atlanta.  People come from all over the world.  I would be there from 10am to sometimes 7pm at night.  IVs, UVBs, HBC, Matrix, neurolink, accupunture, ION foot baths, sauna, I even worked out with oxygen.

I'm going to the Hansa Center in Wichita, Ks. right now.  Deejavu talked about it.

It is an intensive program.  You could call and find out like Deejavu suggested.

You do have to stay in a hotel.  But you are in the clinic most of the day for treatments and therapies.

hoping you the best.

Hi Hoping,

Yes, it sounds strange to say the words "I'm addicted to antibiotics" and yet so many people that I have talked to are.   There is a reason for that which Dr. Jernigan explains that people only feel good when they are taking antibiotics.   He writes about that below:

"Some people only feel good if they are taking the antibiotics. This is possibly due to the fact that some antibiotics work by impeding the growth of bacteria without actually killing them. Again we see an unacceptable solution, since this leads to years of dependency upon antibiotics. This is justified by some, due to the relief the treatment provides, even though it is but again simply a drug-induced illusion of health. "

http://www.townsendletter.com/April2007/antibioticlyme0407.htm

From what I know, long term antibiotic use weakens the immune system, destroys organs, people that I know have had to have their gall bladder removed, and the list goes on.

I have a friend who was on antibiotics for several years and one day, she said to herself, enough of this.  What she did was start Dr. Jernigan's protocol at the same time she was taking antibiotics and slowly weaned herself off the antibiotics.  Today she has her life back and that was over 2 years ago.   So all I can suggest to you is reading Dr. J's book called Beating Lyme Disease and learning.

Perhaps one day you will make the choice to switch over to alternative medicine, that's up to you.  I can only suggest..   I have seen so much during all the years I was ill and the years I have been better.   Everyone has to choose their own path and follow their instincts.

I wish you the best!

Denise

Dejavu, I'd do it in a minute if I could. They got me hooked...And you know what, when I'm off, I'm worse then I was when I started. Also, I'm really not that much better on them. I'm less foggy though. And that's important! But I was not that foggy to begin with. The Internet is a scary place sometimes. That's where I got the notion that the only treatment for me was ABX. And so trolling for them I went. What a weird thing to say but it's true.

Now had I had them before I turned "chronic" that may have been another story altogether.

I am looking into acupuncture. But of course, I cannot take any herbs as they interfere with my chemical ABX load. But conventional medicine has failed to cure my joint issues. And I'm not allowed to take anything for my joints, except for ABX. Or maybe plaquenil. And I'm frightened to take that as I have floaters already. My muscles get tight, my neck stiffens and the only relief is ABX and flexeril.

Flexeril is great but it wears off.

My treatment is not that much $$$
I am at Envita now.
You know that I read that the avergage cost for one person with lyme is over 250,000 in the long run with all of the Dr.s that one goes through. Yikes.
But hey, no offense...but you are not going to learn so much about envita on a cold call on the phone...fyi...
they have no idea who you really are. ya know? get it?
Hi my name is Mr. Alan Sterre...Uhhh I mean....Mr. STairs....yeah that's right.....
lol
Oh and I have met people who are paying for thier treament one day at a time. And then waiting for their insurance to pay them back and then go again.
I am not meeting a whole bunch of rich folk at the clinic. Most people are at the end of their rope.
And some of these people are so, so, so, much sicker than me.

oh...and if you want some info on getting your treatments covered by your own insurance ask me.
My x shipped me here and took care of mine. But others are getting the support from there own insurance companies. I had not even looked into it. I was oblivious. Out to lunch...no lights on..:>)

KeepHope,

What a wonderful name and positive attitude! I was a patient of Dr. Jernigan's. You don't spend the night at his clinic, but you are there for about 5 hours a day. You can read back posts of mine, or e-mail me if you would like.

It is frustrating finding answers for this disease - and the Lymes symptom can vary so much for each of us - that the guessing game this sometimes becomes can be demoralizing.

But keep the hope - there is life after Lymes.

Be Well,

Sanoviv one hour south of San Diego across the boarder in Mexico. Very helpful, real doctors, insurance paid for some of it. Recommended by one of those female doctors seen on Oprah a lot.
