Just curious . . . anyone have symptoms in their bladder/kidney region (i.e. pain in bladder area, back, sometimes stabbing pain migrating down to groin area)?  My 16 year old daughter has been having these symptoms for a week now and our lyme specialist said it could be the lyme bacteria, or it could be a bladder/kidney infection.  He directed us to our internist who sent her urine out to be tested.  The quick test didn't show an infection, although the urine is dark in color.  We will know on Monday.  She also says that she does get a burning sensation when she tries to stop urination, so it does sound like an infection.
Has anyone noticed that since they have been diagnosed that they urinate less than normal, even though they are drinking?  This has been a common issue since the diagnosis.  At the onset she wouldn't get the sensation to urinate even though she would have consumed fluids during the day.  Now she notices that she has to urinate, but has trouble emptying her bladder.  Our lyme specialist said that sometimes the inflammation around the bladder makes it difficult to push the urine out.  I don't know anything about it.
Does anyone know if pomegranate juice and/or cranberry juice can change the color of urine?  She has been on a kick of drinking this (cut with water) for a week now.  Getting fluids in her is difficult so the fact that she loves these juices and will drink them is good news to me.
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks so much.

Hi, Going back many years ago, I had what I would call an irritable bladder.  I would have to go all the time (3 or more times at night too).  This was before I was diagnosed with Lyme.  I felt like I couldn't empty my bladder.  Drugs didn't help with the frequency (I don't remember the name of the drug).  I have given up pop and anything with artificial sweetners as they seem to irritate my bladder.  I drink water with 1/2 a squeezed lemon sweetened with Stevia instead of pop.  It's not as bad as it was, but I still have to go alot.  I seem to be able to empty my bladder better than I used to.
2001 symptoms started:
Tingling in fingers and toes both sides, not tested at that time for LD
2007 Summer tested pos. WB, diagnosed with LD, tested neg for co-infections thru Igenex
Abx - Doxy 100mg 2x/day for 3 weeks (before diagnosis)
Amoxicillin 1gm 2x/day for 1 month
Amoxicillin 1gm 3x/day with Probenecid 500mg 2x/day  5 months
Currently on Dr. Zhang's protocol

I had this once before too. It can last a while. Here's what cured me for what it's worth. 8 glasses of water a day. 2 cranberry capsules. One in the morning. One in the evening. I had to stay off antibiotics too as that was killing the "good" bacteria. I had to get a lot of exercise too.

She may have a simple yeast infection though. The symptoms are virtually identical to UTI and irritable bladder.

Babesia can also cause these symptoms. Has your daughter been tested for that? I had very similar problems with my babs until I went on Zithromax. I was already on Mepron and Bactrim. I found drinking a lot of tea helped. I usually drink decaf green tea. I drink either one of the flavored varieties or a put in an herbal tea bag for flavor.

I'm not aware of any food or drink that can cause dark urine, but some medications can. Check the side effects of any medications she may be taking.

I have intense bladder problems and back pain. Some nights I wake up to urinate 6 times even after getting knocked out with ambian. I always feel like I have to go and have trouble starting. This kind of stuff is normal with Lyme.
