I am already on a diet for mold toxicity that eliminates sugars and most grains. I read about the diet here that Lyme patients are on and they talk about no dairy. What is the reason for eliminating dairy products, is it because of liver congestion or something else? Its tough to get all the nutrients necessary with these diets.  Thanks  D

One of the reasons (not necessarily the main one) is that dairy will prevent antibiotics from absorbing in your body.

Dairy proteins are also known to promote inflammation in the body, and with Lyme, the need to reduce inflammation to get well is a major component of treatment no matter which protocol one follows.

hi razzle! I have read about the dairy proteins on naturopathy websites but they only recommend to avoid cow milk products ; do you know if sheep and goat diary proteins do also promote inflammation?? thanks for knowledge transfer! greetings, dorit.

There's also the issue of casein, which all dairy products (apart from whey) contain, that is said to aid the Borrelia.

Interesting, I had never heard that about antibiotics and dairy. Do you know if yogurt is an exception?  D

I think you are not suppose to have dairy 2 hours before of after abx.

Hi Dorit,

I don't know the answer to your question, however I do know some people with cow milk allergy and/or intolerance have better tolerance of goat and/or sheep milk products vs. cow milk.

Hi Razzle! thanks for answering; so then I hope to be on the save side with the sheep / goat mild products; I too got lactose intolerance.

Hi Dowa! I thinks its the same with yogurt; you should not take it ( or any dairy) together with abx but wait for at least 2 hours to make sure the abx does not just kill the lactic acid bacteria.

yea but it's more like 2-4 hours before or after. Our Lyme digestive tracks are slow. Even if it were only 2 hours before and after if you dose 3 times a day that does not leave a whole lot of time in between :-) So basically you just can't have dairy. shakehead

Did you ever hear of Bovine Somatotropin? It's a groth hormone now found in 95% of all cow milk in the USA. It forces the cows to produce more milk so the farmers can make a lot more money. Unfortunately it gets in the milk and can make us very sick over time(even cause cancer), in fact canada completely banned it! Milk is FULL of bacteria and viruses along with groth hormones. Fox news was one of the first to get the story out but before they could air it the farmers herd about it and paid off the higherups at fox news and the news ancors were told they had to "forget" about the story or they would be fired. When that did not work they tried to pay them off with some of the money fox higher ups received to squash the story.

Some abx, like doxy, bind with calcium, zinc and magnesium and then neither of them are absorbed. I don't think all abx bind with those minerals. You need to be careful when you ingest these minerals. Lyme depletes magnesium so it is good to supplement it - just do it at least 2 hourse before or after taking doxy.

deb,
remind me and I will ask them at the clinic. I mean other than the obvious...not mixing with abx.
It does have a lot of hormones in it. I think that they told me to also avoid yogurt.
I will have to ask.
2004 in Martha's Vineyard me and my two daughters then 11 mos and 6 all got Lyme Disease. This was only known to us because we found the tiny ticks on us and we got very ill. My dog also got lyme and he went lame.
We have fought it for 4 years to no avail.
We all got it again this summer is Texas.
I am now in treatment in Scottsdale Arizona at Envita.
