We are preparing to do some traveling and I am thinking I will back off on my Doxy and Zith. for a couple of days. Give my gut a rest and more comfortable traveling since I always seem to have a bit of nausea most of the time. I suffer through the side effects because of the pay off in the future, BUT I am wondering if there would be a problem in stopping for a couple of days. confused

My doc just suggested this to me and I could go no longer than 24 hours before I had more symptoms. I think it depends on the bugs you are treating and the germ load you've got. A few days off for lyme you shouldn't really tell a difference. If you are dealing with co-inf. you may have a different experience. I would suggest you take your meds with you just in case some symptoms you can't handle start to come back. I was going to say creep back but in my case they came back fast.

Enjoy your trip!

Thanks, seeingstars. My doc thinks I might only have Lyme, but this might be a little test to see. Thanks for the tip, and yes, I definitely am going to go back on the meds once we get to Mexico. It was just the traveling part that I was dreading.

I've been off my antibiotics several times, not by choice. I don't recommend it unless you really need too. I worry about developing a more antibiotic resistant strain by going off and on antibiotics repeatedly. It's the last thing we need with this disease.

If you decide to go off antibiotics, make sure you keep taking a good multivitamin/mineral supplement. If your not taking one, check with your doc. Lyme weakens the immune system. So strengthening it can't hurt.

Thanks all who responded -- I am still going to take all the supplements that enhance immune while on the abx holiday for two and a half days -- but I agree with the worry about the potential problem. I have been very compliant with taking my meds -- only missed one day in three months. So I think/hope I will be OK. I sure do look forward to this being over. not only do they make me sick -- but all these supplements are very expensive -- fortunately my doctor visits and prescriptions medications are paid through insurance -- more or less. All in all I have been fortunate.

Thanks for your help.
