Hey guys I have been reading about co infections such as bart. As you may know im being treated for later stage Lyme. Recently I have been looking at Bartonella and it's rash photos. The thing is I have the same rashes as in some of the pictures!! To the best of my recollection I got them about 7 years ago around the time my Lyme symptoms started. I always thought they must be some kind of stretch marks or something. I have them on my upper arms, my lower right side, lower left side, back, upper legs and a few other places. They are indented a bit into the skin almost like scars. Some of them have a purplish color to them. Anyone know how to tell the difference between the bart rash and stretch marks?

I don't know how to tell the difference, but I got stretch marks that looked like that when I was pregnant -- but that meant gaining a lot of weight in a short time -- skin was taut and the marks were all red at first and then changed to the neutral color with time, but never went away no matter what my weight after that. Did you gain a lot of weight fast? Were they all red or purple at first?

I don't think I gained a lot of weight fast. I don't remember what color they were to begin with, I only noticed them after I got sick. If it was from gaining weight I never got the marks on or near my stomach where you would expect to see them the most.

SickinCT,

I have the same type of marks.   The thing is, I have worked out with weights all my life.  Personally, I also thought they were stretch marks, but two LLMD both felt they were 100% bartonella, even with my background.  At first I didn't agree, but I have them in places were they are not typically for weightlifters, like on the opposite side of my elbow.   The other symptoms that I was told were "classic" bartonella by both docs is the pronounced abdomen, aka the beer belly, when I had previously have a flat stomach with defined abdominal muscles.  When that happened, I knew something was wrong.  Also, the bottom of my feet hurt all the time and I have horrible GI symptoms.

Do you have any of these?

When my doctor was diagnosing me, she asked if I had stretch marks and what color they were. I do, and mine change in color. Sometimes they are purplish and sometimes grayish. I thought they were my stretch marks from babies, but according to her and after reading this thread, they are Lyme related. She had told me, those marks are classic indicators of Lyme, but at the time, she wasn't specific with naming Bart.

I was tested for Bart, but it came back negative, yet my doc told me she thought I still might have it but it could be dormant.

Those pics look exactly like one's I have on my arms, legs and who knows where else? I do have regular stretch marks on my stomach from having kids. (Atleast I believe that is what they are?) They are pretty indented so they probably are. But the other ones are only slightly indented so I wondered the same thing. How do you tell the difference??
