I am taking rifampin, malarone, zithromax, fluconazole, and omnicef for lyme and bart/babesia... My question is in regards to my stomach.. Every morning until early afternoon, I have loose stools... Sorry to be gross... I did get tested for c-diff and it was negative.. I feel it may have something to do w/the timing of when i take them...

Rifampin needs to be on an empty stomach.. so i take it first thing when i wake up and when i go to bed.. should i switch that up?? i take everything else w/breakfast and then dinner..

Hi hezzer926, Antibiotics can upset the natural balance of good bacteria in the intestines. A good probiotic can often help normalize the situation and reduce or eliminate the loose stools. The antibiotics will kill the good bacteria as well as the bad, so take the probiotics at least two hours away from any antibiotic. Because you are on so many drugs, you may need a higher-than-usual dose of the probiotics in order to keep enough of the "good guys" around.

I am glad you did not have c-diff. I am sorry I cannot address the timing of the drugs since I have not been on that many at a time. Your doc should help you with that.

Best wishes to you.
