Last night I removed a deer tick that was attached to my leg - on the side- at knee level. It is red and even hurts a little. Saved the tick in a bag. I think I picked it up walking the dogs today or it could have been from our yard.

I am currently on Bicillin IM 1,200,000 units one per week.
Taking Biaxin 500mg twice a day along with Plaquenil.
Valtex

Am I sufficiently covered for this new bite.?

My whole neighborhood is getting infected - no joke.

I am so tired of this SH---!

bcaring, I am very sorry this happened.  I am glad you found it and saved it.  How did you remove it?

Unfortunately, each tick bite has the possibility of transmitting any combination of Lyme and co-infections.  I highly recommend having the tick tested at IgeneX, especially for co-infections since your protocol seems to be for Lyme.

I don't blame you for being tired of this!

BETH!

Remember that you can send the tick in to IGen.... and have it DNA tested for just under $50 so that you know what it is carrying. This will guide your LLMD and either rule this one in or out.

I am praying it just gives you peace of mind and is NEGATIVE!

UGH!

Ticker and Sojourner,

Once again, thank you so much for the advice. I didn't have the presence of mind to thing of Igenex testing - which is a great idea.

Ticker - I removed it by grabbing its head and pulling straight out. It was very much alive when I put it in the bag.

bcaring,

I would get the tick tested as sojourner said. I am here praying too that it comes out negative !!!

My neighbourhood also got one step up on the local infection scale; we definitely have an increase here..so they started to put up more of those tick warning signs........scaring!!!

bcaring, did you use tweezers or your fingers?

You can get the Tick Test Request Form  www.igenex.com  Click on "Forms and Sample Requirements" on the left and then click on "Test Request Forms" and then "Tick Test Request Form."

I too hope it is negative!

When my son found a tick on my grandson, they called the lyme association and told him that rather than wait for the tick test to come back from California, just get the meds and start asap. So, I hope that means that you are covered if you are currenty on meds. Hope this makes sense.  D

Dorit,

I hope you are doing a little bit better these days. I couldn't help but respond to your post telling us that they are putting up signs in your neighborhood warning about ticks! Do Germans know and understand about Lyme or is it also difficult to get people educated? I know Britian and some of the Eastern countries are not very aware.

I have never seen that done in the US although maybe they do it in areas of Connecticut. I don't know.

Let me know what the state of lyme awareness is in Europe.

I did look at Igenex, and it is $65 for each test - Lyme, Bartonella, Erlichiosis, Babesia.

Thanks Dorit,

Hi bcaring!

I always enjoy exchanging thoughts with you!

I would say a lot of people here start to know and understand about Lyme but it is difficult to get those people educated who make the treatment rules etc.
So I assume we are basically in a similar position here.

As we have some epidemic regions for a tick borne disease called "early summer meningitis" there is a high awareness of ticks being a risky affair...that makes it much easier now with Lyme. It`s clearly said that it`s all over Europe and in genereal Lyme is regarded to be a worldwide disease.
We had many reports on tv stating that lyme should be taken very seriously and may not be easy to cure - which means a lot !!!
Statistics say that at some places 50% of the ticks carry lyme and /or co-infections.

I am more or less ok, took abx cream again for 4 weeks for my eyes, this time something with erythromycin - its said that this should help with lyme; and then used Euphrasia officinalis (made a tea which I use for eye dorps) - it worked (till now).

I pray that your tick comes out negative after testing!! dorit

Ticker - I live in PA. We have a lot of snow today so I won't be able to send off the tick until tomorrow. Do you have any further info or ideas.

Dorit - yes, I always like to exchange thoughts with you too.

bcaring is in MY state, Ticker, so don't go trying to steal her to YOUR state! I will tell her that you have Lyme there, too!

Here you go, bcaring: tick removal = http://www.lymediseaseassociation.org/Removal.html
I went a purchased about 3 or 4 more pair of good tweezers and keep them here and there; to include the vehicle. You can make up a little kit. You'd be surprised how often they've been used and moreso for others.

We've had people show up at our door now w/imbedded ticks b/c of knowing our daughter's journey and asking for help w/removal. No kidding.

blessings,
Sojourner (trainee to the infamous Ticker and probably one day housekeeper for her mansion in heaven)(poor Ticker)...

My 5 year old took 1,200 of amoxy.
But if you were infected you will get a fever by now...or in the next day.
take your temp now.
And don't worry too much. It is a 50, 50 chance that it has anything.
