Lisa!  It will great to meet you too!  And to clear things up, I'm the daughter Sierra.  haha Yes, I'm coming and participating in the teen session.  My mom ("bablymers mom") and my dad will be there too.  I wonder what we can do to pick each other out in the crowd.  Maybe we should plan on wearing a certain color shirt or something. haha

Wow! It will be geat to see you participating! What are you going to be saying, doing? Are you nervous?

I'll email your mom before the conference and figure out what to wear. Have any ideas? Maybe I'll wear a hat with a flashing light on it? lol, o.k. maybe not.

can't wait to meet.

bump

Lisa---by participating, i mean getting my rear end out of bed, into the car, and go to the conference site. haha  i'm not doing anything special like talking.  there is a lady at the conference that will be in a seperate area where all the teens are supposed to gather.  i don't know much more than that.

i think my mom emailed you about being able to tell who we are out of the crowd and meeting each other.  can't wait to meet you either!

As for me and the teen session:

I had a good time!  Met 9 other lymies and exchanged contact info.  The lady that was in charge of the teen session was very nice and would bring up a subject, like coping mechanisms, and just ask us to share ideas and experiences if we wanted.  She didn't do the whole normal speech "This Is Lyme Disease".  Because she knew the majority of us already knew what the disease is, and have been through treatment.  She encouraged us to share, but it was not a requirement.  There was a break midway where we ate some snacks.  The last activity was to cut out pictures, words, etc. out of magazines and make any kind of collage we wanted.  Just as an activity to get our minds working/express ourselves.  We were given free range of what we cut out and pasted into journals provided.  It was an overall good experience.

4 hours to get there and 4 hours back, so I was exhausted afterwards.  Slept in late today, but the good time I had outweighs the side effects of going.

I'll let mom answer for herself about the conference lectures and what she thought.

Hi everyone!

I am glad we went to the conference and thankful that CALDA decided to have the event.  It was great to meet LupnerRN in person and share info.  There were a lot of people at the conf., more than we expected.  I wish there had been more time to actually talk and share insights with other lymies, and an easy way to connect with people from your own geographic area. (This is not the fault of the conference, I'm just a little shy at times!)  The speakers were reputable and did a good job. There was a lot of general info. covered which would have been useful to "new lymies", and there was also some "scientific" type info that would be more useful to "well read" lymies.  The speakers had to move fairly quickly through their material, so it was hard to take complete notes.  My personal opinion is that the question/answer session at the end of the day was also very valuable and needed to be longer.  It was obvious that the crowd had a lot of questions and were able to articulate what they really wanted to know from these experts.  It would be great if there was a way for the speakers to know, ahead of time, what it is that the attendees really want addressed.  So, I guess it is fair to say that it was a good conference, but there is room for improvement.  I would still want to go again if they have another one.  I think the material presented will be available by email to those that attended.  I plan to try and get the copies.

Hey Sojourner, thanks for asking how we did "after the fact".  As teenlymer said, we slept in and took it easy today.  It was worth it!  (My dear husband drove the whole way up and back to make it possible for us to go.)

If anyone wants to know more specifics, just email me!  Best wishes to all of you.     bablymers mom
