I had a lumbar puncture done in mid November of 2008 and am still having lower back problems. When the neurologist inserted one of the two injections that numbs an area of your spine, I felt a sharp wierd pain travel above my buttox and down my right leg. I have been hoping and praying for the lower back pain to go away but it hasn't. Has anyone had any similar experiences and how long did it take to recover??? I had mine done about 4 months ago w only a reactive Bb 41, but I hear that some of the CSF tests are unreliable. Thanks Everyone!

I had a lumbar puncture in November of 2006 and I am sorry to say that that area has always had some discomfort in that area. I will never have another one.

I strongly urge you to bring this to the attention of the neurologist who ordered the lumbar puncture. Do not let him brush it off, as they tend to do. Explain how it felt when they did the puncture and that you still have soreness and discomfort (pain?) in that area.

Was this a diagnostic procedure to rule out Lyme? If so, they are notoriously inaccurate. I hope you are seeing a LLMD who knows how to diagnose Lyme and it co-infections

Let me know what the neurologist says.
I sympathize with your concern and will look for your reply.

I had a lumbar puncture done last year to check for Lyme. Of course they never found anything. They stuck me in two different places but it really wasn't all that bad and I haven't had any complications from the procedure. They finally found the Lyme after doing a simple Western Blot.

I agree with bcaring, I'd talk to your neurologist and get it checked out. Especially if you didn't have that pain before the procedure.

Thanks so much for the response bcaring and unwilling host! I am definately going to set up another appointment with my neurologist and have him do an mri and a few other tests. I also am in the process of setting up an appointment w an LLMD ASAP. I still have some pain and discomfort in that region of the puncture and I was praying for it to eventually go away, but it hasnt... I also will NEVER EVER have another one done!

As for my results of the lumbar puncture test, I came back Reactive for band #41 and had an extremely high strength of signal for the Epstein Barr Virus that was greater than 5 (when a positive result needed to be greater than 1.10)

Thanks for the help and support and goodnight to my newfound friends! I'll post back soon w the results from my neurologist and my LLMD doctor.
