I've been treating lyme, babs, bart since September 2008... I started with Dr R in nyc on the day before thanksgiving 2008... I've been on mepron, zithromax, omnicef, diflucan, and rifampin since then... so about 4 months..

I feel i havent made big improvements.. my energy has increased but i still have stiff neck, headaches in the back of my head, bad brain fog and my stomach is really bad.. when i wake up and for a few hours i have bad diarrhea.. (been tested for c-diff and it was negative)...

i have my next appt this friday.. should i push for IV antibiotics? It seems alot of people make strides with it and esp. since i'm having stomach issues.. maybe this is the time for them?

My daughter has been on oral meds for less than that and has major stomach issues from it.  She has had very teeny, tiny improvements, and I finally asked her doctor at what time do we say it is enough.  He agreed it was now and she is starting IV Rocephin today.  I also asked about the headaches.  He told me that the headaches are the last thing to go with treatment.  Not what she wanted to hear, of course, but if any symptom improved at this point it would be a very welcome change.  She also has lyme with bart and babs, and had ehrlichiosis at the onset.  Hang in there and hope you feel better soon.

Hi Hezzer,

You are on a lot of oral antibiotics and it is understandable that you have stomach issues and now diarrhea. I think it is time to ask about IVs You can still get yeast and diarrhea with IV of course, but it sure is easier on the stomach.

Also, ask if you should add Nystatin to the Diflucan to try to stop some of the diarrhea. I may be wrong but I think the diflucan is for systemic yeast and nystatin is for the gastro intestinal track. I hope someone will confirm or correct that.

At one point I had to stop taking all the antibioitcs and take Sporanox to clear up the diarrhea (tested neg for c dif also). It was after a very long aggressive course of IV antibiotics.

So those are a couple of ideas - you definitely need to address the diarrhea. The IV will adddress the stomach issues. Aloe vera juice was suggested to me but I didn't get much relief from it.

Good luck on your appointment and as always, keep everyone posted on the outcome.

After being on many orals for 1 year, last year I went on IV for 4 months. I only stopped because I was paying for it the insurance only would pay for 3 months and I had to fight for that. While I was on the IV I felt not so good, but after I got off the improvements began. I am now still on orals but improve every day. P.S. It took about 2 years on mepron for my babesia to clear! Blessings
