It is so sudden it is accompanied by the sound in my brain in my ears swooshing. But I will suddenly twitch through my whole body. One big starteling twitch. I believe I read this can be a Lyme symptom? confused

I'm not sure what happens to me is the same as you.  Right before I drift off to sleep my body will sometimes jerk/twitch all of a sudden.  My whole body will jerk.  And no warning.  It just happens at random.  But my symptom might be related to the other sensation I get sometimes:  like I'm falling from a height, and jerk awake.

That happen to me in the beginning of my treatment. Make sure you tell your LLD that you are having that symptom. It is the Lyme he told me and he added another antibiotic it is much better now.

Everyone experiences a "myclonic" jerk shortly after going to sleep (the feeling of falling) hence 'falling asleep'.

However the jerking and twitching you describe is also what I had for many years after being bit in early 90's. I had that even before I experienced any of the debilitating symptoms that were to follow as time went on.

Another thing that is similar is that startle reflex which caused me to jump at the slightest noise.

In addition to ringing, clicking in my ears I also had the swooshing in my head that was an obvious distraction when trying to go asleep.

With treatment this goes away. I have been in treatment for 2 years and my husband says it is gone. Hope you get better soon.

I used to have exactly as minerals described. It went away with treatment (2-3 years).

I had this also. Sometimes during the night I would jerk so hard it woke me up. Quite irritating to say the least! I also had a "restless leg" type condition that made it really uncomfortable sleeping.

Before my treatment started, my magnesium levels were real low and that probably made it worse.

It has gotten much better with treatment!!

Oh my gosh. Don't get me going about the restless leg syndrome. That used to drive me up the wall. Used to take hours to fall asleep.

I had a hyper active thyroid and felt I thing what you guys are describing, my left side chest , back and legs would vibrate, at first I thought its a high heart rate, but maybe it goes up a bit up to 75-80 , thats not bad at all but it drives me crazy especially when it happens at night and wakes me up, i found that 3 advils makes me not feel it, if someone can explain to me why I would greatly appreciate it, I also found that exercise helps, I am feeling much better and can walk 25 minuites a night, I do remmeber the times I couldnt walk to my mailbox.

I now t hink its fluctuating blood pressure and pulse but cant figure out  what it is, should I see a neuro, maybe it will pass?My thyroid is fine by now

Well I guess it means the lyme has moved into our nervous system.

I remember sitiing in a hospital bed watching my legs dance by themselves.

It was over two years later that I finally found LLMD's.

P.S. Restless leg was a huge problem for me as well, I was absolutely unable to keep my legs still when trying to go to sleep and during sleep but it too has gone away with treatment.

Hi,

Ditto almost everyone's comments, I have the same experiences.  Judy, what decreased my 'fast heart rate wake up' (for lack of better wording) was getting my sugar levels in check.  My endo said there is a good test called IGBFP-1.  I've been told it is more accurate of a test than a glucose tolerance test (and much easier, just one blood test).

I too, had the twitching early on.  However, it would come and go (now it is there every night, AND in the morning when I wake up and relax in bed).  Does anyone struggle with this in the morning as well?

I think you are right minerals, about the nervous system being agitated.  It seems that my night twitching is worse when I have some allergic sensitivity or exposure.

I keep wondering why these symtoms (hyper-reflexia or startle reflex), the myoclonic jerking, and the parch waking that I have, all happen at nighttime.

Judy, I'm curious as to when you would take the advil?

It is very intresting  what you are saying Tallison, as the vibrations get worse on Saturday the only day I am not 100percent carful on my low carb diet, I am diabetic, but it legs and chest will vibrate on any day and I take Advil and the buzzing and vibrations stop, I sometimes think it may be a nerve issue, I never heard of this test IGBFP-1. I got diabetes and high blood pressure with Lyme Disease, blood pressure is fine besides 2 days of the month day before and day of my period my pressure shoots up 175/100

Hi Judy,

Thats interesting, re: Saturdays and you having diabetes.  Do you have a glucometer?  I suppose that is a way you could figure out if the vibrations correlate with some hypoglycemia.  I think I'm going to get one.  Though I'm not diagnosed with diabetes, insulin resistance is 'pre-diabetes'.

I think that I have been having bad experiences of hypoglycemia lately, and just thought it was lack of sleep.

Does the vibration happen during the day?

Do you treat the diabetes with glucophage?

Hi veromia and everyone else,

Luckily I never experienced this when I was sick with lyme but I have read much about it.  Many experience this when their body is lacking magnesium.   You may want to take a magnesium supplement and see if it helps.

Below is an interesting article about this:

http://www.mbschachter.com/importance_of_magnesium_to_human.htm

Hope this helps,

Denise

Hi Tallison,

When shaking from hypoglycemia, my whole body shakes, what I am currently feeling is a tremor on my left chest, back and legs, I just stopped Metformin because I lost weight and was going hypo on the metformin, I am on a very low carb diet, eat only one slice of WW bread for breakfast, the rest is protein and vegies. Are you hypoglycemic or hyperglycemic

Deejvu,

Thanks for the response, article you sent a link was exactly what I needed, I didnt take magneisium because I was scared and wasnt sure how much to take, How is Kathy doing?

Hi Judy,

I am hypoglycemic.  I wish I understood this sugar thing more.  I need to research it, but so tired!  Not sure if the glucophage is doing it or the yeast medicine is.  I think I need a glucometer...

I always like reading that antibiotics took away this symptom for people.  It didn't do that for me, but not sure if I was on the right ones and the right amount, for long enough.

28 days of Rocephin IV and about 6 months of orals (a bit spread out).  Mostly doxy, mino and cipro.

Looks like my magnesium (titer and intracellular) levels are ok.

So validating to read of others with these symptoms.

Finally found an endocrinologist willing to work with me and eager to help figure things out!

I learned by watching Mystery Diagnosis, that there were practitioners such as 'Metabolic Endocrinologists' and 'Metabolic Geneticists'.  Made an appt with both of them.  They have already read through my paperwork and know one another, have spoken and seem like they are looking forward to helping figure out the sugar issue.

I hope that I can figure out why hypoglycemia should be treated by glucophage, and if getting my sugar in check will reduce the twitching.

I had my first experience of full body twitching in the past few nights.  Usually it's an arm or a leg or a foot or something.  This time, the bottom half of my body goes one way, the other goes another.  Crazy!

Anyone else have any updates on the twitching?

I am also doing NAET (allergy elimination treatment).  I know that I twitch more when I use the plastic (oxygen tubing).  Also if I keep my cellphone near me.  So odd.  So I think it is heightened sensitivity.  Well, of course infection plus heightened sensitivity.

Hoping people are doing better with this .... please update

Thanks! Tracy
