Mushroom Immune Defense by Source Naturals. Amazon has good prices.

My doctor recomended I take 3 per day to try to increase my CD 57 levels.

Mushrooms are known to be beneficial for the immune system.

Wow, I've never heard of mushrooms being beneficial to the immune system. What does it have in it if you dont mind me asking?

Thanks so much for your response.

I was previously unaware as well.

This is the list from the bottle:

crapake Mycelia Biomass
Reishi " "
Maitake " "
Turkey Tail " "

As well as a blend (long list) of other mushroom mycelia and extracts of 16 well studied species.

The proprietary blend brand is MaitakeGold 404.

Only time and some more blood tests will tell if this helps me.

Hope this is useful to you.

Hi CajunGrl,

First of all, welcome to the forum!  Throughout the years I have learned that boosting one's immune system is really important.

Diet and detoxing is a great way of doing this.  Try to eat as much raw and organic foods as you can, green leafy veggies are great as well as fruit.   I stay away from soda, sugar, bad carbs, and lately I have been making something called Green Smoothies.   Really healthy!  I buy organic from Costco so the price isn't that high.

Detoxing is another thread and if you look in the Newbie Section, I wrote up a long post about detoxing.  I am a strong believer in daily detoxing even for healthy people to rid one's body of toxins just from everyday living.  There are the detox baths, foot baths, dry skin brushing, and so much more.

Also, detox baths do eliminate pain from joints and all over if done everyday but if you have never done them before it is best to start slow and build yourself up to them.

Hope this helps,

Denise

Thanks so much Deejavu. I appreciate all the information. I definately plan on doing the detox baths and taking some supplements. In fact, I'm getting everything ready to start soon. Just waiting for my doctor to change the dosing on my prescription.

For the detox baths, I have a garden tub....what exactly should I use(what works best?) and how much should I use?

Hi CajunGrl,

I am guessing that a Garden Tub is a very large tub (please correct me if I am wrong).   I have a whirlpool tub with 8 jets which uses more water compared to the average tub.  I use at least 4 cups of Epsom Salts (any drugstore brand) and an entire bottle of hydrogen peroxide.

First buy a natural fiber skin brush and dry brush your entire body always brushing toward your heart, you need to open up those pores that are clogged.

Make sure the water is warm, not hot, you could put a thermometer in it and make sure the temp is not above 98 degrees.  For beginners, hot water can make a person really sick.   Also brush the bottoms of your feet.

During the bath (try to stay in about 20 minutes or longer) drink lots of filtered water with lemon juice so you won't get dehydrated.   The epsom salts do several things, they draw out the toxins while absorbing magnesium which most sick people need lots of..   The hydrogen peroxide is adding extra oxygen into your blood stream which lyme bacteria hate.

If you feel strange after the first bath, that is normal and not to worry.   Some people add an essential oil to to their baths, I light candles, love aroma therapy!

If you scroll down to the center of this page, you can read more about detoxing.  I still drink Green Vibrance as it's a great immune boosting supplement.   I buy it at the Vitamin Shoppe.

Hope this helps,

Hi CajunGrl.  There is some good advice here.

Other things you can do to strengthen your immune system is exercise whenever possible, eat healthy (lean protein, fruits/vegetables, avoid sugar and white flour products), get enough rest, and take appropriate supplements.  Some beneficial supplements are Milk Thistle, Resveratrol, COQ-10 (if you are not treating Babesiosis), and liquid Parsley.

Dr. Burrascano has some good advice regarding supplements etc. starting on page 27 of his treatment guidelines at http://www.ilads.org/lyme_disease/B_guidelines_12_17_08.pdf

Deejavu,

Thank you so much again. I am new to this board and have learned so much information in just a few days than I have researching for 2 years. And your right about the tub....it's bigger than a normal tub. Now I know exactly what to do and how much to put. You are very knowledgeable and I appreciate you taking time to post to me.

I'm very scared, nervous and excited all at once to start this. I really hate herxing but want to feel better. I went to college last year and haven't even been able to work yet because of this disease. I just want to be whole again.

Ticker!! Hey!! How are you? I don't know if you remember me but I was on another board(I don't think I can name it here) back in 2007. The board is really slow now. Anyway, you told me back then to go get tested and I did but never got treated because my test was negative and I didn't know enough about Lyme back then. Anyway, all of my symptoms are back and a lot worse so I will be starting treatment soon.

I had my real name listed on that other board and I don't think I can say it here either. I think I will email you.

Btw, thanks for all of the great info! It's nice seeing you here.

Hi CajunGrl.  I am sorry you were unable to get treated before.  I am glad you will be starting treatment soon.  Are you seeing a knowledgeable doctor?  Were you tested for all the co-infections?

Please do email me.

Hi SickOfLyme,

Supplements with mushroom in it seem to be "the thing" for boosting the immune system. I will do research on this and what that pros are on taking it.

Thanks so very much for the info.

Hi HopingToFindCure,

I could exercise if only I could stop hurting....just one day. My muscles are the main problem right now. When I stretch them, they hurt really bad. I'm not sure why it does that. I do want to start walking again. I have a treadmill just sitting here. I truly would love to be back to my old self and just jump on the treatmill without hurting so bad after. I will probably have to start off slow and I do plan on exercising again. You are very lucky if you can still exercise.

Dr. Burascano recommends light exercise. Obviously, you don't need an injury or anything to make yourself worse! Just do what you can and don't make yourself anymore sore than you are.

I don't understand this disease process a bit. I only know I felt better when I did regular exercise. yep, i'm sore as hell. but my joints stopped popping as much, I twitched less, and i didn't suddenly develop new symptoms while being treated for this disease. that is a herx I guess six months in. Bizarre.

Anyways start very slowly -- if you can!

HopingToFindCure,

I wonder if it's the oxygen when exercising that lessons the symptoms? Those Lyme buggies hate oxygen. Hmmmm, makes you think.

Cmacaran,

Thanks for the info!
