Has anyone here had problems with their stomach or pancreas from being on 300 mg of doxy?

Hi king1234.  Doxy can be hard on the stomach, especially if you don't know the tips.  Do you have nausea from it?  It helpls to eat something substantial before taking Doxy.  What helped me was to have a sandwich with some kind of protein.  Do not have any dairy, iron, or magnesium products within two hours of taking it.

Make sure you drink a full glass of water when you take it or it can ulcerate your esophagus.  Do not lay down for at least an hour after taking it for the same reason.

I hope these things help.  You should let your doctor know about your symptoms.

Hi king1234 - on doxy my stomach felt like filled with bricks; sounds funny but was not at all - it really hurted. I think the eating and drinking as ticker mentioned helped in the end. I hope you feel better soon!! greetings, dorit

Well I am off it now..the reason I ask is I have developed inflammation of my pancreas-my dr thinks its mild pancreatitis. I read that doxy can cause this and am curious if anyone else has had this happen?

i had to stop Doxy after 6 months cause my stomach could not handle it anymore. it was destroying my stomach. i was in too much pain all the time, even eating a ton and drinking a ton of water with it. i landed in the hospital a couple times from severe "gastroenteritis" (at least that's what the docs labeled it). it could have been lyme causing hospital visits, rather than a complication of the Doxy, but still... Hope it works for you and you find a way to make it not hurt your stomach. Good luck!

Cannot speak to the issues with the pancreas -- never had mine tested.

But I will say that doryx -- non-generic doxy -- is easier on the stomach.

I always take it w/ a big meal. I'm fat, but I don't get an upset stomach -- as often.

king123,

I am sorry to hear about he pancreatitis - that can be uncomfortable from what I hear. Is it true there isn't much they can do for it? You just kind of have to wait it out? I have taken so many drugs I would not be surprised if mine acted up in the future.

hopingToFindCure,

I am on Doryx too and find that it isn't too bad on my stomach. I also take Plaquinil and you mentioned in another post that your eyes were bothering you. I am sure that you already do - but be sure to have your eyes checked every 6 months while on the Plaquinil.

I also wondered if you were taking Biaxin with the above. I am thinking of adding it back in until I finish this script for Doryx. Then I will drop the doryx and go back to Bicillin shots, Biaxin, Plaquinil, and Valtrex.

The tick that bit me was tested and only came back positive for Rockey Mountain Spotted Fever - so it was a good thing that my doctor quickly pulled me off the shots and put me on the Doryx which covers that.

Anyway, if you could let me know how you are doing on that combo.
Thanks,
bcaring

Hi B, it is uncomfortable but could be more painful--light stabbing pains on and off in my upper ab (1 inch below breast) and some burning in center. I am hoping its just pancreatitis and not pancreatic cancer, I worry as my dad died of this 6 months back and can be hereditary. I am waiting to hear back on more labs and am waiting for an MRI to view my pancreas. So far my other scans have been fine. I think the odd random nerve firings, twitchign, joint cracking etc may all tie into my pancreas. Still not convinced I have/had lyme as I live in the city. Anyway, time will tell.....

Be sure you are taking stuff for your stomach while on all the meds and have your gallbladder checked--
