Hello everyone,

I am curious to know how Lyme breast pain is described by others who might experience it. I also wonder if anyone has had this as a sypmtom of yeast overgrowth in the absence of vaginal yeast infection.

If this is a true Lyme symptom for me it has been very intermittent. I had a mamogram back in 2000 for unusual and severe breast pain. I can't recall how this pain really felt I just remember it was unlike the normal cycle pains I feel and persistent and severe enough to bring me in.

Prior to my Lyme diagnosis I had unusual breast pain in February 2008 that intermittently included the feeling of "let down" when nursing a baby. This pain lasted about a week and went away so I never went to the doctor. At this time I was also able to express milk.

Now for just over a month I have had a very unusual breast pain. It started shortly after taking the drug Tindimax (cyst buster) for Lyme treatment. I was sitting one night and had a very sharp electric shock type of pain on my left breast but closer to my breast bone. The next day the same area was tender and sore. Enough that my husband became concerned that it might have something to do with my HOHN catheter (even though this was placed above my right breast) I went in to the doctor concerned about the catheter. They did and x-ray to confirm that was fine and because it was on my left side did a complete cardiac work up. All was clear.

The pain then seemed to move to the area just above and behind my nipple. Since then, this has been a constant pain that I can describe as a bruise like pain. It was strong enough that it would be the first thing I would feel when I woke up in the morning. On 2 occasions in this past month I have been able to express milk from this breast as well. My doctor ordered a mamogram which was clear and followed up with an ultrasound which was also clear. At this point I have a referral to see a surgeon and I am trying to decide if I want to follow through with this...

During this time my IV treatment ended. I felt within 2 days that the pain had improved. It was masked for a few days  by normal cycle pains. At this point I can still feel it with manipulation but it is very much improved. I do not feel it first thing in the morning. This is when I got to wondering if there is any chance that this could have to do with yeast from my long treatment protocol.

Has anyone else experienced this with Lyme or it's treatment? I am curious how one with Lyme breast pain describes this pain as well.

I appreciate any advice or information offered.  Thank you for your time!

I had severe pain in my left breast and could see large blue veins in it as well. I have vasculitis and it was thought that it had reached my breast. Can you see unusually blue veins in just that one breast? Why the referral to the surgeon if they did not find anything wrong?? D

I have large blue veins in both breasts so how would one know if they have vasculitis?

The pain I experienced I would not call severe... Last year maybe but this year it's more of a dull ache with tenderness.

As far as the surgeon goes, I think the thought is that a mamogram and ultrasound can miss things... I'm guessing that a surgeon may referr out for an MRI... At least that is what I'm hoping. I'm not too keen on having anyone cut into my breast without knowing for sure this is necessary especially considering that Lyme can cause breast pain and the fact that stopping antibiotics has caused a decrease in the pain...

Is vasculitis a result of your Lyme disease? What kind of breast pain do you experience. Does it feel cyclical, stabbing, constant?

Thanks again~  Momo3

Yes vasculitis is part of Lyme. It is stabbing and it moves like you described as the milk coming in, I remember that feeling. Enlarged veins are a sign of vasculitis I was told. I had a sonogram and even have the large veins in my uterus. Strange. I also have pain there. The dull ache you describe I also have and they called it vascular congestion. This was all diagnosed by my gyn. He thought it was due to the hypercoagulation that can occur with Lyme. Good luck  D

I have an appointment with my OB/GYN at the end of this month. I will mention vasculitis and vascular congestion and see what she thinks.

Thank you for the great information. I would have never even known to consider that! I wonder if that is the reason behind my lyme pelvic pain... That so far is a symptom that has disappeared for me... One more question for you, does vasculitis go away and/or do you get any treatment for it?

I experienced breast pain for a couple of months, similar to what you describe. Since I have fibrocystic breasts in addition to this, my doctor did have me get an MRI, which was negative (also had a mammogram and ultrasound prior to the MRI - both negative).

While going through this, I searched on the web and found information on a condition called Costochondritis, which seemed to match a lot of the symptoms I was having. And, I thought it was interesting that they say this is commonly associated with Fibromyalgia. I asked my doctor about this, but he didn't have much to say, and, after about two months it just went away. I chalked it up to one more weird Lyme thing.

Here are a couple of links to the write-ups on Costochondritis:

Thanks pjbat, Another condition I would have never even considered.

I think I will go ahead and see the surgeon... Not let him cut into me, only an MRI just to make sure there isn't anything else going on. If that comes back negative I feel comfortable that I am likely suffering from either the Vasculitis or Costochronditis.

The only thing that bums me out is that this tells me I am likely still suffering from Lyme symptoms. Not a huge surprise since the LLMD I saw is an infectious disease specialist. He seemed to start getting some heat toward the end of my treatment and decided to end my antibiotics based on his opinion that I have received long and aggressive enough treatment. He was not interested in treating for 2 months after all symptoms were gone as I have read so often is required. He even went so far as to send me away on my last visit with a letter (general to all patients now) stating that he will no longer be re-treating patients. If symptoms do come back it is outside of his knowledge to treat and will recommend to seek a alternative therapies... I'll just pray I at least have some time here before it comes back to get the rest of my family in order :)  Sorry I've rambled on...

Thanks so much for your suggestions!  Momo3

You can have vasculitis for many reasons, in Lyme it is considered "toxic vasculitis" so iyfyou de-tox it should no longer be a problem. I just wanted to comment on costochondritis. It is an inflammation of the caritilage and you can have rib/chest pain but it would not go down into the breast tissue as it surrounds the bone. If you have vasculitis due to hypercoagulation, heparin would be the suggested treatment. D

I had bad breast pain and everything was out of wack for the most part. I thought that I was pregnant all the time as well. But one would have to be having sex for that...lol....last thing on my mind.
My periods were also out of control on heavy abx. Like I would bleed through all tampons in less that 30 min. and it would be all down my legs and so many chnages of clothes. It reminded me of after birth after having my 10 pound baby.
But it all changed now that I am not drugging on the abx. Of course the heavy abx is going to give you alot of problems.
As any one can tell you who had read any thing about the lyme bacteria. It is resistant to abx. It was made to know how to protect itself from abc. It just wraps itaelf up into a shell and the abx cannot even reach it. So the probelms that you are having is because your are killing every other needed bacteria in your body.
The ones that defend all of you femnale parts.
