does anyone else get this?

at night when i try and fall asleep (have insomnia) i close my eyes and get this weird sensation. my heart rate goes up and i get twitchy in my chest and upper arms.

here is the crazy part. it feels as though something is trying to enter me or leave me. it is different all the time. that is the only way i know how to explain this.

if i open my eyes it stops. when i close my eyes again, it will reoccur, but with less intensity.

You are not Crazy, this happens to some of us, I feel a vibrating feeling from my chest, back and legs and a buzzing sound that goes with it, I used to feel the increase in heart rate, the increase in heart rate is scarry and can be controlled with meds, you may want to see a cardiologist and ask him to give you a holter which will monitor your heart rate for 24 hours, if its fine you will be relieved, be assured these symtoms are real and scarry but we do learn to live with them once the fear has left us and it does get better and better and disappear with treatment, I came to this site probably 2 years ago and when I was told symtoms get better with treatment I didnt beleive it, but it really does, do you see a LLMD?

Thanks for your response Judy.

The increase in my heart rate does not scare me - at least not yet. It just feels like an adrenaline rush that some might feel during a scary part in a movie. It lasts from 3- 10 minutes and then goes away. What bothers me more is how it feels like something is either trying to leave my body or the other way around. I will try and explain this as best I can.

It usually happens when I first attempt to go to sleep. I will get a feeling something is trying to quickly poke into my chest with numerous attempts. My eyes will flinch even though they are closed and I also feel very nervous. It isn't a dream. I am very aware of my surroundings and could probably have a conversation.

On other nights, I do not get the poking sensation. Instead I get the feeling something is trying to leave. It feels different in that I do not get the sensation that something is coming at me and I do not flinch. I really do not know how else to explain this.

OK- now I know I sound crazy.

Well, it is soothing to know your symptoms are going away with treatment. I do have an LLMD, but I am still doctor shopping and looking at alternative approaches because I am having a hard time with the antibiotics.

Are you on any meds? I got anxiety feelings with Minocycline, maybe try taking a Tylanol or a Zanax and see if it helps

Certain medications can make you feel pretty nuts. I went to the emergency room once after taking just one antidepressant (don't remember which one). I hope you can get something that helps you feel better. For insomnia I find a Chinese herb called corydallis works really well. I have found it online but it is also in Zhang's Herbsom but more expensive. When I was using Levaquin, I could not sleep without this herb. It has no side effects and is not addictive. I hope you feel better soon.
Bartonella can make you feel strange so you might want to check out co-infections.

Judy- I am not on any meds anymore- just a few supplements. I don't always get this when going to sleep. I also forgot to mention that I get dizzy with it as well.

Nefferdun- Thanks for the info. about the pill for sleep. I heard about a chinese herb for sleep, but never knew which one it was. I will definitely look into this. Staying up until 6:00AM is just not fun anymore... I do have bartonella.
