Does anyone have ear itchiness? My inner ears are SO itchy.. its been going on for about 2 weeks...could this be a lyme/bart/babs symptom? I went to the allergist and he looked in my ears.. didnt say anything about any infection

I have had inner ear itching for years. It drives me nuts. All they see when the doctors look in my ears is sometimes they'll tell me I have a bulging eardrum (from fluid behind the ear drum). A twice daily steroid nose spray and one month of abx for a sinus infection a few yrs ago are the only things that have ever done anything for it. I know mine is partly due to allergies, but there is some other factor involved otherwise that sinus infection abx wouldn't have done anything for it. I strongly suspect Lyme/coinfections can do this...seems they can do darn near anything.

Good luck,

hezzer and Razzle -

I am in the same boat: itchy ears, left one more than right one. I had a sinus infection two years ago and ended with a fungus in the left ear after abx eardrops; antifungal cream for three weeks. Then the fungus was gone, I kept the itching which I had even before the sinusitis. I used a lot of salt water nose spray lately which seems to make it at least a bit better. When the itching gets too much I put some drops of olive oil on a cotton bud or directly into my ear. This helps some.

What do you use to stop the itching? greetings to you! dorit

Do you have yeast problems? I wonder if this could be causing the itching? Yeast can be anywhere in the body.

The same thing happens with my ears too. My PCP prescribed "diflorasone diacetate cream USP 0.05% (emollient)" and it does seem to help somewhat.

CajunGrl - I've wondered the same thing...

Hm, the yeast is a point, but I should have got it with the antifungal cream (I took Clotrimazol).

I am also about to start thinking if it may be allergy related - I had a very hard time the last days with the blooming yew trees, birches and alders - they drive me mad and my ear is itching much more; have the feeling that there was also a lot of itching in January when the hazelnuts started to bloom; honestly it did not come into my mind that the itching could have a connection to my heyfever/ allergy before this thread. Now I am really curious.

My Allergist said it is possible for inhaled pollen to go up into the eustacean tube from the nose and cause allergic inflammation.
