Dr Jones has recommended arteminisin for Alysaa coming back positive for the babs duncati. He told me to look at vitapro but I am unable to find it on the web. Has anyone ever ordered from vitapro and have thier contact info? Thanks in advance.

Hi Gretch.

We are very sorry to hear that Alyssa is now dealing with Babs. So glad he recommended Art. He knows that Heth kicked it w/out Mepron and by using Art.

Dr. B had her one Allergy Research Art which was successful for her.
I am sorry;but not familiar w/VitaPro.

Love u,
~d

Hi Gretchen.  I am sorry Alyssa has Babs.  Has she treated it before?

I use Allergy Research Nutricology brand of Artemisinin.  I beleive that Vitamin Shoppe may have the best price http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/store/en/browse/sku_detail.jsp?source=CH0904ANR&id=AR-7192

I am also researching herbs and have found out that certain brands are much more potent than others. The manufacturer can make them 5-10 times more potent than the normal bulk herb or capsules that you buy at a cheap price. I just ordered from a chinese company called kalyx.com (I think) and got houttuynia that is 5 times more potent than the normal dried and ground herb. It was $18 for 100 grams.. Zhang's HH is 9 times more potent but it is over $31 for a about 11 grams. So when you compare prices, you also need to consider potency and quality. According to Schaller's books, you need a much higher dosage than what is recommended. I would check out the side effects and safety and then go for as high as possible if you are seeking a cure.

Hi Gretchen.  I know it is frustrating to deal with this for so long!

Is Alyssa taking Biaxin, Zithromax, or Ketek with the Mepron?  It is my understanding Mepron needs to be taken with one of those to work effectively.

I think adding Arte to the protocol will help.

ticker,

Alyssa is taking Minocycline,Mepron, arteminisin, and Bactrim. My insurance will not cover Zithro, Biaxin was not tolerated well and I think Ketek may be out of the question now due to the number of meds she takes as Ketek can be very hard on the liver. She also takes medication for Asthma and hormone pills due to extreme cycles. Very tough to watch my 120 pounder put all this crap into her body!

yaniv_naced, thanks for the info.  This price is better than what I was paying.

A friend told me she gets hers at http://www.fernsvitamins.com/Digestive/artemisinin.html  at an even better price!

Gretchen, it is heartbreaking that Alyssa and you have to deal with this.

I thought Mepron needed to be taken with one of those antibiotics to be effective, but I am sure Dr. J. would know this.  I believe the manufacturer of Zithromax has a patient assistance program for people who are uninsured or whose insurance will not cover it.  Also, I believe that Azithromycin is the generic version of Zithromax and maybe it would be covered?

Hang in there okay?

ticker,

Thanks for the ideas. I have checked into the programs and unfortunately because we have insurance and do not fall 150% under poverty level they can not help us. The cost per month for the Zithro is close to $300, not really feasible in our household. I guess we will just keep plugging away with whatever abx Dr Jones is able to prescribe and insurance will cover! I hope you are doing well my friend! Peace!

Babesia duncani is one of those strains that is apparently not affected by mepron or zithromax. It might be a wise idea to ask for something else besides mepron. A better approach is similar to what your daughter is taking now. I'd reccomend some of the following options for duncani, however not all taken together. But her age may determine what she can and cannot take.

Biaxin, malarone(possibly because of the proguanil which mepron does not contain),bactrim, artmenisin, riamet(co-artem),allinia, primaquine, chloroquine.

Sorry to hear that it is dragging on for you and your daughter. It is the same situation for my daughter. Dr. Jones thinks she might have Bab. ducani as well, but she has not tested positive everytime we test for it. She has Bart and was positive for Bab microti 2006 and treated for a year with mepron and has been negative for it last 2 times re tested.  If you don't mind me asking, what symptoms does she still have that are probably due to the Babs ducani?   It has been quite a while that I have been on the forum.

tropicalsun,

I am not sue she really has any symptoms of the duncani except for chest wall pain with treatment. Dr Jones wanted her to treat because of coming back highly positive. Is your daughter having any symptoms? Alyssa does have the stretch marks from Bart and that is something new, she just began Bactrim for that. I feel like she is on 19 different meds, I am sure it makes her crazy especially when y ou feel well most of the time! Peace!
