Hi all, I've been diagnosed with Lyme and Bartonella. I've probably had these things for 25 years. I chose to try the herbal route before any antibiotics and I've been on Dr. Zhang's herbs for about 3 months. Soon I will start HH. Any clues as to what to expect with herxing, etc? Anyone else doing this?

I really appreciate your willingness to share your experiences with everyone on a forum like this. We've been largely abandoned (and abused!) by the established medical community; how lucky are we to have this form of communication so we can help each other? Thanks for any insights.

Hi, welcom to the forum.  I used Zhang's herbs after I had my symptoms under control with abx and I relapsed.  Later I found out I also have bartonella so that may have been a factor.  I purchased Schaller's book about bartonella and he writes the HH capsules are ineffective unless taken at "very high" doses.  Apparently Zhang is supposed to double the amount of houttuynia that is in the HH capsules after consulting with Schaller.  But Schaller states most of the recommended dosage for herbal protocols (all of them) are "very low" and they need to be "very high".  He does not elaborate further unless you pay to consult with him which is $500 for half an hour!  But I think "very low (3 per day), low (6 per day), moderate (9), high (12) and very high (15).  You might want to throw in moderately high which would make high 18 capsules.  I do not believe you can cure yourself using his herbs, or anyone's, at the dosage they recommend.

When you are treating bartonella (at least when I did on abx) I experienced mood swings, nervousness, agitation, insomnia and depression.  I know when I used HH capsules for a short time before I knew I had bart, I had insomnia , which is why I did not continue so maybe it was doing something.   I have ordered houttuynia from another company in bulk which I will have to put into capsules myself.  Zhang's herbs have a nine to one ratio of potency - one gram of his is equal to nine grams of the regular herb.  I bought 5 to 1 potency - much cheaper so I will have to take that much more to reach a benificial level.  If you are really sick, you should start low and work up.  Cove Bud oil is also recommended to help treat bart as it Cumanda.  Everything needs to be taken higher than recommended.  By the way houttuynia is a very common plant you can grow yourself called "fishwort" or Chameleon plant.  It is higly invasive and smells like fish when you pull it out.
