Is organic yogurt okay to eat? I've read yes and no... Lately, I've gotten that familiar feeling in the back of my throat that I feel is yeast related.. I've been having yogurt and almond butter.. maybe too much? not sure if this is the cause... and i'm on diflucan and have the oral nystatin swish and swallow.. as well as probiotics

Hezzer: I would guess it is the almond butter. Nuts are not allowed on the mold-free diet which is also recommended for candida. Nuts tend to be moldy.  D

The yogurt should be helpful, but if you are taking a good probiotic, you might want to skip the yogurt as well.  I'm just learning about Lyme, but I previously had chronic sinusitis, and was on anibiotics for what I thought was a long duration at the time, and on and off all my life (nothing compared to this).  I went on a yeast free diet, which excluded dairy.  Also if there is sugar added to the yogurt, it could feed the yeast, which would cancel out the benefit. I did eat almonds and even almond butter, but avoided peanuts.  You may be sensitive to the almonds though.

I'm still trying to figure out what dietary changes to make, but am thinking that I need to do the full yeast free diet, since I don't know how long I will be on the Doxycycline this time, or if the dose will even be increased once I get to the ID specialist.  It's hard, but worth it to feel better.

I personally think its the yogurt.. it is organic and has natural sugar in it.. i guess its milk sugar... but I ate almond butter throughout the first few months and has no yeast issues..

Hi.  Have you had allergy testing to see if you have issues with any nuts or dairy?  That could cause inflammation in your throat.  Another thing that can cause it is reflux.  The drugs we take for Lyme, et. al., can be pretty irritating to the stomach.

I am on azithromycin and other things currently treating babesia and have a terrible time with recurring candida and other bacteria/fungus imbalances despite taking two different kinds of probiotics (a friendly bacteria combination, and a friendly yeast), prebiotics, a natural anti-fungal compound, and diflucan.  I also follow a very low carbohydrate diet, eat no refined foods of any kind.  I've learned to stay on top of this because it can get very bad very quickly if I don't.  You might want to consider doing an elimination diet approach to seeing if either the yogurt or the almond butter are bothering you.  And, if you don't already do it, it would be a good idea to check the yogurt list of ingredients to be sure you are getting only yogurt and friendly bacteria and not a bunch of fillers and additives (tapioca starch...) and added sugar or fruit.

I hope you get relief soon.

Rose
