Went to new infectious disease dr. today and got results that last dr. ordered.  Surprisingly, he didnot order lyme test (?!)  Did all tests for co-infections and only one to show up was HME 1:320.  Anyone have any comments or info on this?

Also, he took me off Bactrim and put me on amoxicillin for a month.  Any comments?   Thanks so much.

Hi springsjean.  Why didn't the doctor test you for Lyme?  Did he test you for the other type of Ehrlichiosis also--Human Granulocytic Ehrlichiosis?  Did he test you for the other co-infections Babesiosis, Bartonella, and Mycoplasma?  Which lab was used?

Ehrlichiosis is one of the co-infections.  It infects the white blood cells.  Your result is very positive.  I believe it is positive if it is over 1:40 but it could vary by lab.  When I get to my computer I will post the symptoms. Many overlap with Lyme.

What dose of Amoxicillin did he prescribe?  From what I understand, Doxycycline is usually the first choice to treat Ehrlichiosis.  It is very important to see a Lyme knowledgeable doctor.  Was this doctor recommended by a Lyme patient?

I do not know why the first doctor did not test for lyme other than he said my 2006 WB was positive even though it only showed 3 bands. Yes he did test for all other co-infections you mention and all were negative other than HME. Lab was Igenex and Medical Diagnostic and Quest.

This new dr. was recommended by lyme association. He is taking a totally different approach than the first LLMD but I was not happy with mannerism of first dr. This dr. said he has to try amoxicillin first for a month. Dose is 3000 mg a day - 2 500 mg 2X a day. Thanks so much for your help.
