I'm sure this has been posted before, and I may have even asked myself..don't remember...lyme brain
BUT, how many actually get hair loss from lyme?
It seems like the numbers are pretty few, but I am losing most of my hair.
It's been falling out for over a year and won't stop. Right now I'm wondering how much of it is due to medication.
I'm thinking it's from lyme, but maybe it's not. I've never lost any hair due to anything in my life before so this is
really disturbing. I had thought it would have stopped and started growing in by now.
I really hope it will grow back in..does anyone have any experience with this?
Thanks

2long4this,

My hair fell out for about 6 months. I'm not sure if it was from Lyme or just stress. I do know that once it starts falling, it takes another 6 months for it to grow back. I took something back then that my doctor told me to get, and still take now called AG Pro. It helps your hair and nails grow. It works but it takes a few months to see results and you have to take it continually. Ask your doctor about it. You can get it over the counter at Walmart.

Also, it is normal to lose 100 hairs a day. You should see how much hair comes out of my head.
2003 symptoms started with very intense panic attacks and anxiety. Also had sound and smell sensitivities. Was in and out of the hospital from 2003-2005. Diagnosed with panic disorder.
2007 found an LLMD and was diagnosed with Lyme. Didn't start treatment.
2008 symptoms came back with a vengence. Muscle pain, joint pain, floaters, stiff neck, rib pain, slow thinking, brain fog, etc...
2009 went back to see LLMD. Diagnosed again with Lyme plus co-infections....Babesia and Bartonella.
Illnesses:-Chronic Lyme Disease,Hashimotos Thyroiditis, Ulcers, Hypoglycemia
Medications:-Biaxin 250mg to start (starting slow and working my way up, Mepron(babesia), Ultram(muscle/joint pain), Thyro Complex 60mg(Thyroid), Probiotics ,Caproyl(intestinal candidas),Psyllium Powder(intestinal cleansing support),Bentonite Magma(absorbent aid for intestinal detoxification)
-Plus a ton of other supplements

2long4this, I started to lose hair when I first began to experience symptoms and feel sick. That was well over 7 years ago and I was just diagnosed and started treatment for Lyme a few months ago. I'm hoping that as my overall condition improves so will the hair loss. It's extremely disturbing and stressful, especially on top of everything else we're dealing with. I really hope it does grow back, for both of us.

Canjungrl, I'm going to try the AG Pro. Glad it worked for you.

My hair fell out the entire time I was on IV--4 months last year. I thought I was going bald and was very discouraged. I thought it was the haperin (anti clotting agent) as that was one of the side affects. Maybe it was because that time was the worse I ever felt. I don't know. It has grown back and I am still on antibiotics. One of my money hungry llmds suggested I get injections in the scalp--glad I didn't. I switched llmd's shortly after that. Blessings

My hair has always been sort of thin, and seems to fall out cyclically and seems to me to be hormonal. It does seem to be even thinner than ever and I was just hoping it would not become worse! What is AG pro? Is it a chemical solution or supplement? I try to avoid chemicals and drugs if possible. Right now though I just want to be well. I hope the heparin doesn't make more fall out because now that I am on the IV abx I am getting that too!

Turquoise,

AG Pro is a supplement that you can buy over the counter at Walmart. Talk to your doctor first before you take it in case it interferes with medication, but I think it's pretty safe. I took it 2 years ago when my hair was falling out and it helped a whole lot. My hair was falling out so bad that I clogged the shower drain and I would leave hair piles behind on my pillow. I would find hair everywhere. I was really scared. My doctor told me to get the AG Pro, so I did. It helped my nails grow too which was weird for me because I have brittle nails from my thyroid condition and they break.

This supplement will not start working right away. You have to give it time. I just want to make sure that no one thinks this is a fast working miracle product. You have to take it everyday continually. I take 2 in the morning and 2 in the afternoon. Again, ask your doctor before you take this and also ask how much you should take.

oh yes!
When I was on all of the abx from the LLMD in FFl. and then I did the German treatment...
Lat summer. My lilly reached down daily and picked up handfuls of my hair in the drian of our shower. The first time I saw it I thought..my gosh....how long has that been there..gross....
So I cleaned the whole shower with a scrub brush.
But then I'll be...the next day after my shower I looked..and there it was again.
I ran to a hair dresser and got it all cut off super short.
At least with short hair it did not look so thin. And with all of my constant fevers and fatique...It just felt great honestly.
But my hair has come back now. I have a short bob. And can finally wear it up again.
It is a good idea to go on immune support and lactobacillus acidophilus if you are on abx.
The hair does come back though.
It is not the lyme. Because both of my girls have great heads of long beautiful hair.
2004 in Martha's Vineyard me and my two daughters then 11 mos and 6 all got Lyme Disease. This was only known to us because we found the tiny ticks on us and we got very ill. My dog also got lyme and he went lame.
We have fought it for 4 years to no avail.
We all got it again this summer is Texas.
I am now in treatment in Scottsdale Arizona at Envita.

Thanks, CajunGrl and Martha's Vineyard for your encouragement! I have thought of trying things for it, but don't like to take meds if I don't have to. My hormones seem to be the cause of my thin hair, and I have been trying to get them regulated, but apparently Lyme screws with them too. Mine isn't clogging the drain, but it is a bit scary to think it could get worse yet.
Is it the meds that cause it or the stress to the system?

For me the cause was the lyme and coinfections, not meds.  I started to lose hair when I became sick 7+ years ago with flu-like symptoms, fevers, fatigue, pain and brain fog.  I only started treatment with antibiotics a few months ago and no longer run fevers every day and the flu-like symptoms have lessened so I'm hoping the hair loss and thinning will eventually improve.

This is the most hopeful info I have read in a long time. My hair has been falling out since I got lyme - ten plus years. (Never prescribed enough antibiotics to kill the bacteri). Hair is still coming out., a little every day and never grows back. I will try Ag Pro as soon as I can get to Walmart. I'm not on anything but supplements. Thank you for posting this. I know it's just vanity, but I don't want to be bald.

Please talk to your doctor before taking the AG Pro. It has iron in it and some people may not be able to take iron. Especially people with liver problems. There is only 10mg in it but still ask your doctor first.

Searching for reasons that my hair has been significantly thinning over the last 5 or 6 weeks and discovered that you can experience hair loss with Lymes Disease. The thinning hair, especially on top is very disturbing. I was initially diagnosed in 1988 and treated with antibiotics. No issues for years and then in 2013 I experienced another Lyme exposure in May, which was treated with antibiotics at that time, and now the thinning hair.

My concern is will the hair loss stop and I'll experience regrowth? Has anyone else had symptoms start this late after treatment? I am scheduled for another Lymes test.

Hi I had some hair loss initially but once I started medication it eased up. Still seem to be losing lots but nothing before I was diagnosed. Sorry this is happening to you. It can be very distressing.

Hi mikihaas,

I loose a lot of hair, but it is as if it happens in cycles... and it always grows back. My hairdresser says that she can see I lost a lot of hair, but that there are new sprouts everywhere.
