Since being diagnosed with Lyme last year and being treated--I am now on a break from ABX and just doing natural...I find myself being scared and paranoid about other illnesses i may have..i have never been sick or afraid of being sick but now i find myself in a panic afraid i may have cancer or be terminally ill..i often say i wish a doctor could just tell me everything is okay and they only thing i have is lyme..with the wide range of symptoms and the coming and going i have found myself afraid that something else is wrong..this is no way to live at 28 suddenly afraid im going to die or something else is around the corner and how can i ever be sure...i know i cant let these negative thoughts in but i just wanted to share and give others a topic to share about the post traumatic stress an illness like lyme can cause...I hope someday the fear will subside and I wont think about the nights in the hospital and i will feel more confident that my body is okay.

I have this too. In the beginning I really thought I was going insane. I could not believe what was happening to me and I had a slew of doctors telling me it was "all in my head". Of course they didn't use those exact words, but it was all I was being treated for... I've been on almost every ant-depressant, anti-psychotic Rx.... I even asked about shock treatments (ECT) because I couldn't get all of this "out of my head and body". I remember yelling at my shrink (after 12 mos. of BS) that there was something "physically" wrong with me. Her response? "Well I did have a patient with a brain tumor once". about a week later my first LD test cam back EIA positive, but WB negative. It took 4 more months to find a doctor to treat me.... and I had 2 more LD tests run. The third one came back fully positive by CDC and NY state standards. And then, after 16 months of he11, I get a script for 200mg of doxycyline. Little did I know that the real he11 was just beginning.

I've been sick for 9 years. I'm not always "on the edge" but today I've been extremely bummed out. I'm so tired of being tired.

My latest dr., an allergist/immunologist, is going to test dose vancomycin to see if I just get "redman" syndrome from the drip being too quick, or if I am truly allergic to it.... And then, if I'm not allergic, I go in for my second picc line and my 4th round of IV anti-biotics.

My neck hurts so the "cervical facet injections" I had a few weeks ago has worn off or just didn't work in the first place.

I wish I could be more upbeat but I can't. Just know I'm in the trenches with you and NO YOU ARE NOT INSANE. Also, I take Xanax for the anxiety. It has helped. Please ask your physician for something for your anxiety, there are medications for this that actually work.

I can't guarantee you'll get better or worse, but I can guarantee you that things will change.

I've had these feelings too, and they're definitely a symptom of the infection itself. The worst came over this past winter. I got a stomach bug and had to stop taking abxs altogether. The mood swings became intolerable. I'm finally back on an abx regime, and the moods are mostly gone. It's such a relief. Have hope. It can get better. It just takes time and the right treatment.
