Wow. This is all over the map -- testing! It is so unreliable -- in my opinion. Why bother? If you were bit and are still sick, that should be enough.

Exhausted...hitting the hay!

Be well everyone! Keep on trying.

Some recommend testing only for Lyme IgG and IgM WesternBlot, then go from there depending on results.

Some say if you have a positive result for Lyme, there is a very strong likelihood that there are coinfections as well and thus testing is pointless until after you've tried to go after the Lyme for a while - to enable the body to produce antibodies against the coinfections that might actually be detected on the test. The recommendation in this scenario is to treat the Lyme with abx that also kill other coinfections, and if symptoms indicate specific coinfections to go ahead and treat those too.

Personal opinion is that if a person has had Lyme for more than a year untreated that their immune system is likely compromised to the point that they would test negative on antibody tests for the coinfections and so not to waste money on them. The coinfections are associated with specific symptoms and if treating Lyme alone isn't resolving these symptoms then to assume the coinfection is present and treat for it. The most important thing is that each person finds what works for them that leads them to wellness again.

Just my $.02...

kwahraps:

Never initially treated for Lyme. Two docs feel my immune system is just not making the antibodies or they are in complexes.

PCR's done through MDL for 4 species of Borrelia. All neg. PCR is hard to get a positive on from blood, but bery specific when you do.

My CD57 is low. My C4a and TGF B1 are very high, indicating innate immune system is on high alert.

I have just been found to have Bartonella. Awaiting species confirmation from NC State. (vet lab there doing major Bartonella research on pets and humans)

I see an awesome doctor now. (LLMD)

I am just now working my way up to optimal doses of the meds for both Lyme and Bartonella.

Have had what seems to be (to me and doctor) herx reactions.

Good info. Thanks for sharing.
