I haven't posted in a long long while.

Two years ago I had Lyme Disease.  Many different opinions (including those on this forum) suggested I was undermedicated and/or had a more serious infection than previously thought. My family doctor did a great job, as far as family doctors go, but I need to see someone a little more experienced in Lyme. I've been meaning to get to a doctor, but time, money, and feeling just fine put it on the back burner.

Well, don't you know I got bitten again today. Fantastic!

I'm looking for a good doctor in the New Jersey area.

I live in Southern Ocean County but am willing to do some travelling if need be.

Anywhere in Southern NJ would be perfect.

Central also good.

Not entirely opposed to going to the greater Philadelphia area (but not my favorite options)

Anyone have any first hand good doctor experience in this region?

Thanks so much!

email stephanie@turnthecorner.org give her your area she will send you back an email of area docs. this advice was given to me and i give it to you. it lead me to a lyme doc and a diagnosis so far only clinically in process of western blot. but you should have your fam doc give you 400 mg or at least 200 mg a day for 4 weeks at least. in case you have lyme again you can get it early and have a good chance of getting it before it gets into your tissues ond becomes almost impossible to kill.

I did just that (thanks!!) and got an interesting list.

One is a psychiatrist, which seems odd to me. Maybe it isn't though. Another is an RN. All are pretty far from me.

Now I need to do a little more research to see if any of them takes my abysmal insurance.

I can't remember the exact dose (I think I kept the container though) but I was given doxycycline (I have a severe penicillin allergy so my choices are limited) for 15 days. It did take the initial symptoms away, but I cycled through to new symptoms pretty rapidly. My diagnosis was entirely clinical as my doctor felt the blood test was worthless and decided to treat me as if I had Lyme and see how it went. Since he had been treating me for 20 years, he could see pretty quickly that what I had couldn't be anything else. I never got the bullseye, but my onset of symptoms was sudden and severe. It was the doctor who asked me if I had been bitten by a tick - I didn't tell him. I think he did pretty well for a family doctor, but I definitely need to be evaluated and probably medicated more seriously. If it comes down to it, I'm pretty confident that if I do a little research and take it to the family doctor, he'd prescibe whatever I needed (in the event that I can't get inn to see someone else right away). So at least I'm covered for the time being.

So, while I research the list, if anyone has any firsthand knowledge of any doctors in NJ, I'd be happy to hear.

Thanks again for the link!
