Hi All-

I have been bitten at least 30 times in my life. I was raised in Aptos California and spent much of my free time playing in the Redwoods and surrounding area. I recall on one instance I had 8 bites on various parts of my body and I must have pulled off more than 100, as the ticks were everywhere. A few days after I had nothing more than a minor red mark on any of the bite areas and certainly no inflammation.

However in 2001 I was hiking in Big Sur to the "Tanbark Trail and Tin House" and a tick had bitten me on my waste line. Over the next few days the bite had swelled to the size of half a volley ball. There was a white area the size of a silver dollar with a small dark spot that looked almost infected. The white area was rock hard and the surrounding area was bright red and so swollen that i had to walk around with a long shirt covering my private area as I could not wear pants. At the time I was running an Internet startup and was broke and over worked and had no insurance so I did nothing.

Skip ahead to 2009. I was in the Navy SEALS from 1989 - 1996 and was in really good physical health up to a few years ago. I gather I have had Lyme Disease for at least 8 years. My symptoms are severe to say the least. I can not kneel on the floor or rest my arms on almost any surface without my limbs falling asleep. I have nearly all of the listed symptoms and unfortunately I would rate my daily pain and discomfort at a 6 out of 10. I was shot in the arm when I was in the military and I broke my clavicle and nearly all my ribs and with those injuries pain was not a big issue. Now with my current health problems I am miserable. The biggest problem I have is my joints are stiff. So stiff that laying in bed hurts. I have gained about 75 pounds in less than 2 years. I have extreme fatigue and have to strain to run a single mile when only 5 years ago I could run 66 miles in less than 9 hours.

Anyone here feel like talking about their knowledge or experience with chronic lymes? or some info on chronic lyme disease?
I am going to spend some effort scouring the forum.

I just got my health insurance today. I am taking action and getting this fixed since its not going away on its own :-)

How do I go about looking for a doctor?
Do I tell the doctor to check for any specific type of tests?
What is the best Lab? (I should tell my doctor I want to use a specific lab?)
What is the ideal diet? (Raw foods?, Vegan? etc....)
Are there any reasons I should not ask my doctor to subscribe Oxandrolone?
What treatment would be good to get my energy back so I can exercise?

Yikes! I noticed I first signed up in 2005 :-) And im just now taking care of this sickness.......crazy how or why I would take so long before taking care of this.....

When tick-borne diseases are a possibility, it is very important to see a knowledgeable doctor.  Many doctors do not understand them and treat with outdated protocols.  Besides Lyme, ticks can also transmit co-infections including Babesiosis, two types of Ehrlichiosis (HME & HGE), Bartonella, and Mycoplasma.  Many people who have Lyme are co-infected.  It may affect treatment choice and progress.  It is important to be tested for these by a Lyme reputable lab such as IgeneX in Palo Alto, CA.  Many Lyme doctors use this lab for testing.

Eating healthy will help strengthen your immune system.  Many people who have Lyme beneift from cutting out processed carbs and sugar.  It is also important to drink plenty of water and to get enough rest.  Is Oxandrolone pain medication?

Are you still in CA?  If you need a doctor recommendation, you can email me at ko_@bellsouth.net

It is also important to learn as much as possible.  I recommend reading Dr. Joseph Burrascano's 2008 Diagnostic Hints and Treatment Guidelines For Lyme and Other Tick Borne Illnesses at http://www.ilads.org/lyme_disease/B_guidelines_12_17_08.pdf  He is one of the top Lyme doctors in the country, and many Lyme doctors follow his protocols.  He also has diet, supplement, and exercise recommendaitons.  I also recommend the books "The Lyme Disease Solution" by Kenneth B. Singleton MD and "Everything You Need To Know about Lyme Disease Second Edition" by Karen Vanderhoof-Forschner.

Hang in there okay?  Good help is available, and you are not alone.

I just wrote ticker a personal email-
-----------------------------------
Hi :-)

We sorta met on the Lyme forum.

Im wanting to get a doctor but dont really know where to start. Im in San Luis Obispo. I have not been to a doctor of any kind other than an ER doctor for a broken shoulder in 15 years. The only thing I did about 2 years ago was send away for a "kit" from IGeneX and they sent back the results for Babesia and Bartonella and some other stuff i did not exactly understand.

Do i simply goto a Internal Med. doctor and then ask for a blood test? I need to move forward in such a way that my insurance will cover.

Insurance wise I signed up for a fairly good plan as I knew I was going to need somewhat decent insurance.

You mentioned you knew of some doctors in the area?

Thanks!!!
