What do you guys use to assist with sleep?  I recently cut soda/caffeine to the bare minimum and, indeed, for a few weeks there I slept a lot and easily, but now that I've thrown the caffeine and any withdrawal almost completely off, I'm back to normal sleep(can't get to sleep until 3 am often).

A shot of Jack Daniels? KIDDING

Ummm I have heard that the herb Selenium is good for sleep. I have never tried it however and you should google it to see what you can find.

Also liquid melatonin, an herb as well.

I would do research however and check them out before taking.  Some herbs can interact with Rx's.

I've been popping antihistamines for the last three nights...but I'm still not asleep until 4AM.

Current treatment (began June 10th 2009):
Biaxin 1000mg/day, Pulsing Flagyl 500mg/day 1 Week Every Month

Skullcap, Passion Flower, kava kava, lavendar & other herbs can be helpful, as can Valarian Root. Check with your pharmacist first to make sure there aren't any interactions with your meds.

Also, there are homeopathic remedies that can help - the most commonly available one is Calms Forte. Again, be sure to check with your pharmacist first.

Here's a comprehensive article on natural methods of dealing with insomnia:

I have no financial or other connections with this website/content.

Take care,

Chamomile, valerian root and passion flower are herbs for calming and muscle relaxing, but they might counteract with your meds, and if you are sensitive to them might react the opposite, just like meds. can do.

Oh yes, I forgot to mention lavender oil or a relaxing blend that you can put on yourself or a something nearby. Take a warm, not hot bath or shower. Try listening to soft music or mediation CD. I go to bed with my mp3 on almost every night.

And I just saw that Razzle has already mentioned the lavender too. Sorry for the repitition. Kava kava is controvercial, I think it can be addictive?

try time released melatonin, not the regular kind.
2001 symptoms started:
Tingling in fingers and toes both sides, not tested at that time for LD
2007 Summer tested pos. WB, diagnosed with LD, tested neg for co-infections thru Igenex
Abx - Doxy 100mg 2x/day for 3 weeks (before diagnosis)
Amoxicillin 1gm 2x/day for 1 month
Amoxicillin 1gm 3x/day with Probenecid 500mg 2x/day  5 months
Currently on Dr. Zhang's protocol stopped Zhang's after 6 months symptoms returned.  Started Buhner's protocol May 2009

I also heard that melatonin (the under the tongue type) works wonders..  When I have problems, I eat Turkey, LOL!

My Lyme insomnia came upon me 6 years ago. I took ambian,  benedril  exedrimnPM and more--nothing really worked for long. Then a homeopathic MD told me to get "Fibro AMJ Nighttime formula" It is supposed to help with muscle pain too. I have been on it ever since. I get it online. It has kava kava, valerian, melatonin and other things. It works for me.

I use L-Triptophan powder and Theanine.  They have me entering stage 4 sleep again.  I love the L-triptophan (Dr.'s Best?).  I dream again when I take that and/or 2 100mg Theanine pills.

I take Lorazepam too (for night twitching), but I think that only helped to get me past stage 1.

Hope this helps~

My youngest son and I both have insomnia. Here is what finally works for him (most nights)

I think there is an adult liquid formula too. The liquid works faster. I mix 30 drops with a litle bit of orange juice at bedtime. I am sure an adult would need more. I buy it at cause I buy other things there too.

Here's a good link to find the best price for the adult liquid kind:

He also takes this melatonin:

We tried other melatonins but this one works best. He gets 2 ml after I give him the other herbs above. The melatonin needs to be taken right before bed so you are in the dark right afterwards.
I have been told that the melatonin time released kinds work better but never tried them. You have to be careful not to take too much or it makes insomnia worse.

This is a good link for help.

I had to try several herbs since March and it's been a long road!! I think him stopping the Biaxin has helped though.

Best of luck! My bed time is usually 3am too!

Skullcap and Valerian root are in my Muscle Calm. I guess that's why it works pretty good at getting me to sleep. My kids have taken it too. It's very safe. The only thing to be careful about that I have read is taking skullcap when you have liver problems.
