BETHS: I need your advice..

HI Beths. I go to my Orthopedic doctor tomorrow to look at my MRI's. If it shows I still have impingement, should I get injections? He gave me a little the last time. I think it helped. I just dont understand why the muscles in the leftside of my neck, my worst shoulder,will not get better. The trapizius muscle on the left side chronically hurts. The right one does too, but not as bad. I am so fearful that all of this pain is due to "fibromyalgia" like symptoms. The deltoideus muscle on the left is so bad ,too. I just want it to be a structural problem that can be fixed. ----So, I know the injections are bad for someone with LD, but at this point I dont care. I need my arms. It has beeen nearly 5 years. I tried injections, PT, not using it. Maybe try more injections??????? what do you think??  desperate, amey

Stutterbug,

are you talking about steroid injections?...if yes, i know sometimes you need to do what you need to do to get some relief, but my husbands dr. said steroids and lyme are equivalent to gasoline and a match...good luck.

A local cortisone injection should be ok-we're not alking about taking oral steriods. If you have chronic shouder problems, I would wonder what you are doing on a daily basis to aggrevate it. Do you sit at a computer in bad positioning? Carry a heavy bag/purse on that shoulder? Watch TV with your head always turned to one direction? Give me some more info onyour daily activities

BETHS: I dont do anything to aggrevate this. I am 34 yrs. old and my first signs of Impingemnt Syndorme were at 17 years old. At 22 yrs. I received first injections and they worked. My debilitated state was over. I received them 3 more times over the years and they worked. Starting in 2004, the symptoms were really bad and continue to this day. I have had injections, PT (which the therapist didnt understand why the pain would jump around my arm to different locations), and ice/heat, everything. --I saw an osteopath who thought an upslipped hip was causing the problem. I guess he helped a little. I dont do any of those things you talked about that may be aggrevating it. I even stoppe ddriving for awhile. ---I have had LD since I was six years old. I have never had a good long run of abx treatment. ---The orthopedic doctor did say that my acriom bone hangs a little low and that may be causing the impingment. I will have a clearer view tomorrow when we see the MRI. My arms have literally been my focus for 5 years.

Good luck-an MRI should help figure out whats going on. Sometimes a problem in the cervial spine can radiate to the shoulder-which is why your arm pain "jumps" around.

 

Anyone check you for "thoracic outlet syndrome"? Turn your head away from the side that hurts, and stretch your arm (on the painful side) out. Or, look straight ahead, bring your ear to your shoulder by laterally flexing your neck (do both sides) Does that increas your pain? Mention this syndrome to your doc

thank you so much. I am going to mention that syndrome. It does hurt when I do those things. The muscles are so tight I barely can. thank you so much. amey
