I keep getting little things that come out of my skin, mainly on my face, and they feel and look like little grains of sand.
Does anyone else have this or know what it is? My LLMD has no idea.
Thanks

Hello there.  Wondering if you have ever seen a dermatologist for the skin problem?  Also any itching?  Many things can cause strange skin problems.

Good luck in your quest to discover what these sand particals are.

Kind Regards,
Kitt

yup, I've been to a dermatologist before. No one seems to know anything about it. I do itch first, not badly, but enough to scratch and there is another one of these sand like things. It's really making me wonder.
I wonder if this could be some way of my body detoxing.

Morgellons disease is a mysterious skin disorder characterized by disfiguring sores and crawling sensations on and under the skin. Although Morgellons disease isn't widely recognized as a medical diagnosis, experts from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are investigating reports of the condition, which they refer to as unexplained dermopathy.

According to the Morgellons Research Foundation, primary signs and symptoms of Morgellons disease include:

Skin lesions, often accompanied by pain or intense itching

Fibers — which may be white, blue, red or black — in and on the lesions

Crawling sensations on and under the skin, often compared to insects moving, stinging or biting

Joint and muscle pain

Fatigue significant enough to interfere with daily activity

Inability to concentrate and difficulty with short-term memory

Behavioral changes

Other signs and symptoms may include:

Changes in vision

Stomach pain or other gastrointestinal symptoms

Changes in skin texture and color

Morgellons disease shares characteristics with various recognized conditions, including attention-deficit disorder, chronic fatigue syndrome, Lyme disease, obsessive-compulsive disorder and a mental illness involving false beliefs about infestation by parasites (delusional parasitosis).

Reports of Morgellons disease have been made in every state in the United States and various countries around the world. Most reported cases are clustered in California, Texas and Florida. Resource: Mayo Clinic Staff

I'm pretty sure there's no treatment for Morgellons. Unfortunately. I've heard it can come from a tick too.
I don't have any sores or those little fibers, just the sand things. They almost feel like salt.
I wonder if you could have Morgellons with just the sand things and nothing else.
I have a lot of the symptoms that overlap lyme, plus a positive IgeneX test, although not CDC.
It's all so frustrating.
And this stuff coming out of my skin is really gross...yuck.
I'm surprised no one else has this.

Yes I have had a sand like rash all over my scalp, down sideburns and all over forehead off and on for three years, have it now. When I mentioned to dr., he said probably from shampoo. LOL. Wonders never cease!

I have it - most people with Morgellons test positive for Lyme. Try explaining to a healthcare profesional that you have fibers coming out of your skin and they pretty much treat you like you're nuts. I see a LLMD in the Bay Area.

Vicparis,
Do you ever get the grain of salt/sand things coming out of your skin?
I wish I knew what caused them..I don't have fibers or anything.

I had nodules pop up on my right arm (and right butt cheek).... just little bumps, but if I just barely scratched them, they would bleed. And then they turned into these scabbed over sores from 1/8 inch up to 1/4 inch.... feels like they're at least 1/8 inch deep too. These have been on me going on 2 years now. I think the hyper-baric may be making a difference.

Every once in while they hurt like he$%... and then the pain stops, very wierd.

Yes and I get fibers sometimes too. My treatment is the same as long-term abx Lyme treatment. Except for the fibers and granules, symptoms are the same as Lyme (in my opinion). I'm going to stick with Lyme as the subject matter on this board.

I haven't been on here in ages but i couldn't resist to respond. The little flesh colored bumps that appear on the forehead, cheeks and temples are from a type of yeast overgrowth.

Sometimes they appear from the minor immune suppression involved with lyme and bartonella. But the main culprit is long term antibiotic treatment. I recommend diflucan. I used to do diflucan every 3 months for about 2-3 weeks. I rotated it throughout my 3 years of antibiotic treatment for lyme. Certain abx can cause these yeast flare ups more than others. Doxycycline, Tetracycline, Minocycline, Amoxicillin and Biaxin seemed to make these sand particles appear the most. The sand particles are just a by-product of a perticular opportunisic yeast that takes hold when most of the friendly bacteria on the skin are wiped out. They can often appear on the shoulders and side of back also, however, the bumps on the shoulders and back take on a more red acne like appearance. You will have to do a short course of diflucan now and then if you want to keep these bumps away.

Oil of oregano and olive leaf could be a herbal alternative, not as effective but safer.

Lamisil, Sporanox and Nizoral are some other options but i wouldn't reccomend them due to greater toxicity.

And i highly doubt you will ever find a dermatologist that knows what i'm talking about.

Phsinvent,

Thank you for posting that. It's so weird what our bodies do sometimes. I have a problem with yeast so now I know what to do if I ever see this.

Thanks:)

The same concept of friendly bacteria in the intestines and stomach also applies to the skin. After many months of antibiotic treatment, there will not be many beneficial bacteria left on the skin. This is when the opportunists take hold. Viruses, fungi and yeast will come out to play and thrive unchallenged by the friendly bacteria. In a normal situation, these friendly bacteria on the skin keep the others in check and a balance is typically maintained. The same goes for the good bacteria in the stomach, colon and intestines. We know what can happen if you do months of antibiotics without acidophilus supplementation. C-diff and yeast to name a few problems.

PHSINVENT! I was wondering what had become of you. I was hoping you were better and not needing the forum any longer. I have missed your informative posts and was thinking just last week to put and SOS out for your where abouts...hoping you would see it. I am happy you are alive and posting.

How have you been and where are you at in your treatment. Last I remember you were going to an LLMD after having been treating yourself for a few years????

Blessings

I hope people are still involved with this topic. I found it interesting what you said about yeast from long term antibiotic usage. I'm wondering if this is the same thing that has been happening to my skin ever since I stopped taking antibiotics for other skin issues. My dermatologist prescribed Solodyn for adult acne on my face. I would get strange pimples, sometimes in clusters, anywhere on my face. By strange, I mean they never came to a head, but were large, painful and never expressed anything but clear liquid and would take forever to go away. Not typical cystic pimples. This was not the same type of acne that occurred on my arms as a teenager/young adult (then treated with Accutane). Anyway, back to the the tiny pieces of sand. They seemed to appear a few weeks after I voluntarily stopped taking the Solodyn after being on it for appr. 1.5 years. I just got tired of taking it, and he always advised me that taking antibiotics long term simply wasn't good. These grains of sand are on my shoulders, neck, chest, breasts, torso and back. Exfoliating doesn't seem to help, for there is so much there never seems to be an end day after day.
Hopefully someone can confirm this theory.

Hi Lrang,
I really sorry, but this is a very old thread - from back in 2009. Most of the people who posted in this thread no longer post here.

Do you also have a tick-borne infection?

There are many different types of treatments for yeast over-growth, and you may want to check into them closer.

You also might want to check into Morgellon's as was suggested by another poster here. The other thing you can do is to start a new thread and explain what you are dealing with there.

Hi.. I KNOW HOW TO TREAT IT!

I had the same thing for almost 3 years. Went to many Doctors, and like you said, they don't know how to treat it. I went to hell for three and half years. I am a Skin Care Specialist (Aesthetics), and after two years going to see many diferent doctors, and after lots of research I created a cream that make then go away. If you want to call me, I can tell what to do to get ride of this terrible things.

lilianesol, this is not a place to sell your product and this is a very old thread, so the person who started it is probably not around any more.

Are you a Lyme patient? This is a Lyme forum.

So I had Morgellons- at least that's what Creek Trail medical told me. Terrible itching and black specs from head to toe but more so on scalp and face. It was a terrible way to live for years-just terrible.
I got lucky and found the right doc. We treated dental and parasite and that cured my Morgellons. I also go lucky meeting a really good biological dds. I needed to treat both.

Hi and welcome to our forum Kekette,
You have posted to an older post but what you are describing that your mother has possibly could be a symptom of morgellons /Lyme.

Be careful what you see for information online about this skin manifestation that comes from Lyme.

There is a lot of mis information out there and unfortunately many that suffer with this have been mislabeled and misunderstood.

The truth is that Morgellons has been linked to the Lyme bacteria. If someone has Morg. they have Lyme.

However, not everyone with Lyme gets morgellons.

Not everyone with morg gets lesions. The determining symptom is fibers/filaments. These sometimes can be invisible to the naked eye and a microscope 60X is needed to see them.

Your mom needs to see a knowledgeable llmd and get treatment for Lyme and other possible co-infections.

There is a book by the leading expert Dr. G .S. called "A factual guide- Morgellons, The legitimization of a disease"

here is a peer reviwed paper also: [url]https://www.dovepress.com/history-of-morgellons-disease-from-delusion-to-definition-peer-reviewed-fulltext-article-CCID

There are more recent papers also to support the connection between Lyme and the skin manifestation of Morgellons and more ongoing studies to hopefully help people with Morg.

You may want to go to the website for the Charles E. Holman Morgellons disease Foundation also.

Tell your mom that I wish her the best of healing and please take care.
