Hi,

I'm on oral AB (Biaxin/Ciprobay/Tindamax), this is my 3.week on it but i feel nothing.
I'm afraid oral AB is not enough for me and I will need I.V. AB, but I know my doctor gives I.V. AB for only 30 days ang he only gives Rocephin.

I would like to know what do you think how long is the minimum time for I.V.AB (Rocephin)?

I have another question. If I feel nothing at the 3.week of AB, can I be sure that this oral AB doesn't work for me?

While it's not necessarily indicative of tx failure that you've not experienced any change in your sxs after just 3 weeks, it does seem likely you'd have noticed some change by now. Intravenous Rocephin comes with significantly more risks and greater cost, so you might want to review your dosage level with your physician first before considering a different route.

In answer to the IV tx length, I started with 8 weeks, then my physician and I decided to extend it another 4.

Thank you for answers:)

Sulma,
Did you finish the I.V.Rocephin?
How effective was it?
Did you get other AB with the Rocephin?

I have been on IV Rocephin since 2/25/09 and my LLMD wants to keep me on it for one year.  I am also on 400mg doxy daily for Ehrlicihia and Lyme (don't know how long yet - to be determined).  When I was diagnosed with Lyme in January, my CD-57 was 16 (normal values 60-300); last week I was retested and it is now a 42!  My LLMD explained to me that long-term treatment is necessary and the proof is in my results.  Although they are rising slowly, they ARE rising and I am feeling much better.  Not symptom free by any means, but much better...especially the brain fog and ST memory loss and Lyme rage.  Yes, there are possible issues with long-term Rocephin - I have to have my gallbladder removed, but IMO, that is a small price to pay.  As I said in another post, I'd rather lose my gallbladder than my life.

Actigall or Urisol. I think Urisol is the generic for Actigall.

Tickedoff,

I wouldn't have know about the medicine either if 1bitten hadn't told me about it. She was on it while on IV.

I did about 5 weeks of Rocephin and felt much much better. Now you should know that the first few weeks were horrible because everything comes out fighting against the meds. I believe I was on I think 2 grams a day, everyday. I am 25 and weighed around 130 when I was on it.

Just got home from having picc line inserted. Nurse coming to give meds this afternoon. I have never heard of Actigall or Urisol. Thanks for the info. Did your LLMD prescribe or other Dr.? My Dr. was concerned about my gallbaldder going into this as I've been in treatment almost 3 years had me on herbals before the IV and liver/gallbladder flush. I'll ask about these.
