Well this has long ago stopped being fun, not that it was ever fun to start with ever since I had that ominous bulls eye rash on my belly last year and thought...oh oh, I'm in deep doody now if I start having symptoms...

I'm on another round of Amoxicillin and into my third month of treatment. I feel gradually better after every round of ABTs but still have symptoms recurring to some degree 5-7 days after ceasing treatment. My doctor did a Chem panel on me last week and my Potassium levels were lower than the last panel he ran a month earlier. I was already taking Slow K for mild hypokalemia from my first Chem panel and instead of going up it had went down to 2.9.

My liver chemistry was shall we say a little on the odd side too.

I've read that these two abnormal labs go with Lyme and I was wondering if anyone else has encountered this and what did you do to get things back to normal. I'm now taking two Slow K a day and using potassium salt substitute not to mention downing any and all high K foods I can find. I'm really pushing fluid intake on myself to keep my system flushed out and try to detox and upped my fiber intake. I'm afraid to get too much of a laxative effect however because I do not want to drop my K below it's already low 2.9 reading. I wound up in the hospital once when it went down to 2.4 so I don't want to go there and do that again. I'm trying to cut back on sugars and carbs and I've given up my after work cocktail indefinitely.

Is this part of the die off process of the bacteria? Is my body just trying to shed itself of the dead bacteria and that is causing the messed up lab results?

I'm trying hard not to become discouraged and as a nurse I know this can go on a long time. My doctor seems to be knowledgeable about Lyme but I'm wondering at what point do I head for Springfield MO and see if I can get treatment from the LLMD there? I'm not afraid to try the big gun treatments or even do self administration of IM or even IV drugs. My insurance sux though and I'm trying to do this locally as much as possible.

Sorry for sounding down. I'm just getting tired of not feeling well, not thinking straight and not having any energy.

I don't want to alarm you but this is an alarming situation. First be sure to read the threads at the top for newbies...That said I am Sorry to say that NOW is the time to see a LLMD. Your treatment does not appear to be adequate. You probably should be on different antibiotics--combinations that are stronger and longer. You also need to be checked for co-infections because if they are not attended to the lyme won't get better. Do not wait. Bite the bullet and go to the right doctor as soon as you can. This only gets worse. I had to go to over 32 specialists and it too many years to finally get treated by an LLMD who of course is not on my insurance plan.

Believe me I worked in hospitals too and knew many doctors who knew absolutely nothing about my condition, although they said they did. An LLMD will treat by symptoms rather than tests that arery reliable.I am 2 1/2 years into treatment and I have a lot of my life back after being virtually mentally and physically crippled.

Blessings

Hi Mosin,

Welcome to the forum!

If I were you, I would find a good Lyme Literate Medical Doctor. They are the best at understanding and treating this disease. You should post your email so that members can tell you the contact info privately. You can email: stephanie@turnthecorner.org to find a Lyme Literate Doctor in your area. You can also go to: www.turnthecorner.org/bod.htm and ask for further sugestions.

For more info, please read the topic at the top of the first page of this forum tittled "The Basics, Newbies check this out". It will help you get started learning about lyme.

I've read the Basics for Newbies section and the burrascano report is really awesome. My husband is in favor of me going to the LLMD doctor that was recommended to me in Springfield MO. I see my GP on Monday and will see what he has to say. Personally I think that while he is on the right track, he isn't quite on the mark as far as dosages are concerned.
