Does anyone experience evening fever and chills? My husband has been on treatment for one year now and is currently on Rocephin and Flagyl. He has had several episodes that ended him in the ER. Almost the same time each evening he gets elevated temperature between 100.5 and 102.9 with chills sometimes so severe his bed actually shakes from his shivering. Sometimes breathing becomes labored. It passes within 2 hours. During his last visit to the Er they decided to keep him for a couple days due to the breathing problem. They continued his meds during his stay and no reactions to them while he was there. The hospital of course does not believe it is Lyme disease and sees only the ALS dx and sends him home with no further testing. LLMD does not believe it is from meds because when he went off them for 2 days the fevers returned but with less severity. LLMD says go to your primary care doctor. (useless) While in the hospital my husbands primary care doctor was out of town. The doctor taking his calls told me he has seen ALS and is glad we are treating for Lyme. He said he couldn't believe that 1-1/2 years ago that my husband was a strong never ill man. Too quick, he says. Where do we go from here? I am beside myself. He is now on a feeding tube, bi-pap and needs communication device because of his slurred speech.

I am so sorry to hear about your husband. I have not had fevers as high as that. But I have basically been running low grade fevers since February. Mine rarely get above 99.5, but that is with me taking Ibuprofen. So without that, who knows what my real temp. would be. Mine always increases in the late afternoon/early evening. I hope he gets relief from this soon. I am wishing you all of the best.

I'm so sorry your husband is going through all of this. My gosh, I know it must be hard.

My temperture spikes a little in the evenings too but usually doesn't get past 99.9. This is when I feel my worst though. I've been having chills since last year with or without the fever.

Did your husband get tested for co-infections? Babesia causes chills and fever and sometimes the fever can be quite high.

I hope something good cones his way soon. Some kind of breakthrough. He is definitely in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi themerks,

So sorry to hear your news. I'm thinking Chlamydia pneumonia and/or other coinfections, in addition to the lyme. Ask if any of the meds are treating for this. Ask about viruses/treatments and meds also. The CPn has been implicated in some MS cases and ALS.

Best wishes to you and your husband. bablymers mom

Hi themerks.  I am sorry your husband is having these symptoms.  Was he ever tested for Babesiosis?  Fever, chills, shortness of breath are some of its hallmark symptoms.  Does he ever have night sweats and/or shortness of breath?

Does your husband have or ever been tested for Lyme co-infection Babesia?  Fevers and chills....... symptoms of someone who has Babesia.

Everyone has given excellent advice to check for co infections like babesia which has symptoms similar to malaria. You can't always go by tests as they are very inaccurate. There is no test for the strains that I have. So your doctor should go by symptoms and not just tests. I hope he finds out what is wrong soon. You must be very stressed from worry.
