I was wondering what dose of Grapefruit Seed Extract you take?  I have heard that it is a cyst buster for LD.  Any info would be appreciated!  Also, if you have tried it what was your experience?   Also, have any of your LLMD recommended it?
Thanks, KO

Hi KO,

My daddy takes it and swears by it. GSE has a ton of benefits and I'd love to try it myself. I found this site to be very helpful in dosing instructions:

Internal Use

Note: Never use GSE full strength, may cause irritation.
Orally. Suggested Use: 5 to 15 drops mixed in 5 ounces of water or juice, 2 to 5 times daily, with or without meals. (Or, take one-two NutriBiotic CapsulesPlus® or one-two NutriBiotic® tablets 1 to 5 times daily). Children(under 10 years): 1 to 6 drops mixed in 5 ounces juice, 2 to 3 times daily. Do not use full strength in mouth.

Cajungrl,
I have the Nutribiotic 125 mg tabs.  I haven't started them I decided to try Buhner's Protocol instead.  I lost my taste so I need to replace the Resveratrol with something.  I am on Cat's Claw and have just started up on the Andrographis (I didn't know what was causing the loss of taste thing).  Do you know if you can take it with Cat's Claw and Andrographis?
Thanks, KO

Hi

I take GSE. My LLND recommended it, and my LLMD said something to the same effect- I can't remember precisely what he said though.

You want to get either the nutribiotic brand or the citricidal brand.

It tastes pretty terrible, but the liquid form is better, because you have more control over how much you take. You want to start off slow- just in case you have a strong reaction. But I've worked my way up to 15 drops 3x a day.

It can interact with some antibiotics though. It's ok with Biaxin and Bactrim (I asked), but I seem to remember reading something about it increasing the concentration of Doxy in the blood...or something like that.

I don't know about it's effectiveness compared to antibiotics, because I don't remember what my LLMD said, but it is a cyst buster. I had more of a herx on it than I did on my natural antimicrobial (My ND thinks my Lyme is mostly in cyst form , unfortunately)

EDIT: Just saw your post.  I know it is ok to take it with Artemesia/Arteminisan, but I don't know about anything else.

Hmmmm, I know that my dad takes it with other supplements but ask your LLMD to be sure. I wouldn't feel comfortable giving you an answer.

Thorne Research makes Citricidin, a capsule containing a powder version of the Grapefruit Seed Extract. I used to take it and had no problems from it...would love to get back on the GSE but have to proceed carefully given my fragile medical status.

Hi KO LD,
I have read that you can take GSE w/ abx- just two hrs. apart. You also can take it w/ androghaphis (I do, 400mg 2x). You space your cat's claw 2 hrs away from the GSE and Andrographis as well. I have been taking the NutiBiotic max strength(3x) defense plus that has other ingredients and vitamins. It also has all the "good" mushrooms added as well (although I have read you should not take the mushrooms w/ a current infection). If you should to decide to take the pill form- 250mg of GSE is equal to 24-30 drops of liquid form. I also take 20G of vitamin C daily plus a host of other immune building supplements. I decided to go off abx on my own accord as I felt my body needed a break- I had been on them off and on (on for the most part) for nearly a year. I can only speak for myself that I have had no problem taking all this together and I feel (right at this point) maybe a bit better. Hope this info helps in your quest for your healin protocol.

Ljantler,

Thanks, I have been taking it with the Cat's Claw and Andrographis so I will now work out a new schedule to separate them.  Where did you find out about the spacing for Cat's Claw and the Andrographis I haven't been able to find anything about that?  Also have you found any recommendations for dosing for LD?

Thanks, KO

KO, sorry I mispoke about not being able to take cats claw and andrographis at the same time- they are both herbs and not vitamin supplements (that should be spaced). Here is a link re: dosage for andrographis

ljantler,
I don't know if you have read Stephen Buhner's Healing Lyme or not, but it is very informative.  You are almost on his protocol.  I had to drop the Resveratrol because I lost my taste, but I felt like it was doing something.  It sounds like he feels that the GSE is not of much use for Lyme ( I was very hopeful after reading it was a cyst buster),  he started that it wasn't systemic and mostly limited to the GI tract.  Too bad because I just ordered some of the drops (less pills to take), but it looks like there is a ton of other uses for it so it won't go to waste!

KO,

I know he feels that way (and I respect his thoughts) and I have read most of his book. I also think GSE has too many good attributes (including helping w/ LD) not to take it (for me). I have provided a link for you to research more about it. I do hope you get your taste back and feeling better soon. You also take care.

ljantler,

I will continue to take the GSE pills that I have left and I'm going to try the drops that I have ordered (it's sounds like they are really bitter, is I don't know if I will like taking it that way or not), I think anything that boost the immune system is a good thing!  Thanks for the link great info.  I pretty much have my taste back (it took 2 weeks, but Buhner told me it could be 30 days so I'm lucky I guess).  I've been looking for something to clean veggies with and I think this will be perfect!

I know this is an old thread but I am VERY interested in finding out whether or not GSE interferes with doxy.

This thread speaks to GSE INcreasing the concentration of doxy in the bloodstream.

I've read on a non-scientific Lyme site that GSE reduces the effect of doxy.

My LLMD heard nothing about this.

Does anyone have any light to shed on the topic?

Thanks to all who post!
7/14/14 removed nymph deer tick and started 200mg doxy for 3 wks per PCP the next day
9/18/14 met LLMD and was clinically dx'd with Lyme due to Bells Palsy
10/23/14 Igenex/CDC positive for Lyme
currently taking amox and doxy....doing well and hoping to be off abx within 3 months

I'm taking GSE and doxy, so I take them two hours apart.

This thread keeps coming up when I type in "grapefruit seed extract lyme" into le search engine, I thought I would add my peace and ask my question.

for lyme, and/or babesia, tularemia (these are my suspected co-infections) - - - -

I have been taking gse on and off for 3 years. I have gotten better and worse constistently. these last couple months I have seen a BIG improvement in combining GSE with Ivermectin, garlic, and olive leaf extract (because I heared lyme patients also suffer from viral infections. I suffer from rashes, so I assume im in that grouping) mepron sometimes and wormwood/black green walnut hull (with a 2 week on/off pulse). hope this helps some out there.

my question is, Has anyone figured out weather GSE is best pulsed? wormwood (artemisisnin) for instance works alot better when pulsed because lyme pumps it out of the cell with special defense mechanism or something sais my doc. does gse work this way? whats peoples excperiences with when this stops helping them herx?

I'd be interested to know any GSE dosing hints.

I just started GSE last week with just 1 125mg tab of Nutribiotic brand.

Coincidence or not, my sleep has become interrupted with difficulty falling asleep. I know that can be a symptom of Lyme and it's definitely been a symptom of low thyroid (for which I take thyroid hormone replacement).

In light of this, I'd also appreciate anyone sharing whether or not GSE has affected their sleep.

Symptoms mostly related to peripheral nervous system except when I herx
