I realize many of you were not diagnosed until you had a lot of health issues that added up, but perhaps for those of you who can remember to the time you were infected... what were your initial symptoms? Aside from the rash, which it seems I got. I know stiff joints is purportedly to be a main symptom. Again, I worry I'm just a hypochondriac but I feel slight discomfort in my right wrist, ankle and elbow. I don't sense any other issues. I have been tired lately, but my sleep schedule sucks. I want to know what I should be looking for as symptoms, since I understand lyme causes non-distinct symptoms. Obviously very early symptoms should not be the same as long-term ones, so I'm curious about what other people found as their earliest ones.

Also, no one answered my other post in my original thread... has anyone heard of dry ice tick traps? Do they work? I know I'm ridiculous.

Hey lovemuffin,

How are you holding up hun? Did your doctor give you two weeks extra of antibiotics?

Regarding your question, everyone is different and it depends where you got bit on what symtoms you will have. I started out with anxiety, panic attacks and heightened senses. Others have neurological symptoms to start. But, I think the main thing you may want to look for might be fatigue and brain fog. It's just so hard to say as these symptoms came the second year for me.

I would push for more antibiotics at a higher dosage. This is the only way that I know of to get rid of the bacteria when you are first bitten and have the rash.

I've never heard of a dry ice tick trap.

No, my doctor sucks. I am beginning to understand the ignorance about lyme disease that many of you have experienced. Either doctors don't understand it, or don't take it seriously. I want to see a LLMD. But since my infection was apparently only recent, I may just push for the higher dosage and get an LLMD if things don't get better. I think I will ask for 400mg of Doxy, which seemed like an average dosage. Is that twice a day? I am taking 100mg twice a day, which is basically useless, apparently. My rash has mostly gone away, but looks weird now -- little red dots. I keep wondering if there could be a connection with this bite on my hand that made my hand swell... it's still very red. Sigh.

My right foot is tingling. I am scared. Maybe I will ask for more than 400mg. How soon will lyme show up on a western blot test?

My first symptoms appeared about 7 weeks ago. I was having trouble with my vision and a general feeling of unwellness. It then progressed to achy muscles and joints. The rash didn't appear until a few weeks ago. I found the spot where the tick bit me and that area was red. Within a few days it tripled in size and started to spread. I ended up with 21 red blotches all over my body. At first my dr. thought it was some kind of allergic reaction and put me on steroids. It just kept getting worse and I just couldn't take it anymore. I went to the ER and was admitted for 2 days and received IV antibiotics. I am on Ceftin for 3 weeks but I am still having symptoms that come and go. After doing much research and talking to my dr. I have found that Lyme can cause a variety of symptoms. I didn't have the rash until several weeks after the other symptoms started. This is a bizarre disease!

Good luck.

First symptoms were severe constpation, nighsweats and some random knee pain, crippling fatigue.

Progressed to sharp, stabbing pains in feet and hands and shoulders.

Brain fog to follow.

Hope you feel better soon and caught it early enough for a full recovery!

My first symptoms were fatigue, cold intolerance, and tendonitis. I don't know when the brain fog started- I only noticed it when it became severe. The neurological stuff (muscle twitches, tingling etc.) didn't start until 1.5 years later (after I developed tendonitis in nearly every join in my body).

Sophie, so sorry your doctor put you on steriods. I also had more than one EM rash - had three that I could see.

lovemuffin, I thought I had the flu and I think a lot of people feel that way. I had headache and stomach ache, then body pains and weakness. Then I had terrible back pain for a month which just went away. I had the same pain in my arm. It was so bad I could not use it for a month - then that went away. I got migraines constantly for months. I began to feel like my mind was a blur and my memory was awful. It was though I was senile. Then my muscles began to cramp in strange places and that continued to hurt.
When I started doxy I had muscle twitches, chills and dizziness. I was breathless from exhaustion.
I had other symptoms that were related to bartonella. My legs hurt especially my chins. The twitching in my muscles was caused by bart. I also felt disconnected from myself, down as though nothing mattered. When I started treatment for bartonella I became very emotional, and still have trouble with feeling easily irritated.
I also woke up in the night feeling very hot.
Do whatever you must to get the correct dose of doxy and take it until you have cleared the infection up which is usually at lease 3-4 months in the early stages. You should be symptom free for at lease two months before you quit the abx. Then you can take herbs to kill anything that might be dormant. Grapefruit seed extract is good for this.
