I tested positive for Lyme mid-July. (2 bands positive, IGG negative) Per my labs, I was exposed very recently. I had symptoms of extreme fatigue, dizziness, lightheadedness, "brain fog", low grade fever and just being completely run down. Doc put me on Ceftin for 21 days (500 mg 2x/day). 10 days into meds I started feeling ALOT ALOT better. High energy, felt great. After I finished meds I felt tired again but not to level of before. Doc re-tested me 1 week after meds - test was exactly the same. IGG still negative by the way.

Doc referred me to infectious dis. specialist. I went today. She feels lyme is "gone". That since I was recently exposed, Ceftin was plenty to rid of it. I feel good and seem to get better each week. I can work out, run, do daily activities and not need a nap :) She said the 2 bands may show positive on tests for months or even years since I HAD Lyme.

Hubby feels I should seek LMDD or go to Hopkins to be sure. I feel significantly better and not sick. Every now and then I have a tired day, but nothing that extreme.

She explained that since my IGG never even elevated, I was never "chronic" and we caught it early. Does this make any sense??? Should I "wait and see"? Or fork out the money to see the specialist?

I hope you are cured but I would follow your husbands advice and go to an LLMD just to make sure. Lyme tends to cycle. I was sick and then well and then sick for two years before becoming so sick I could not get better. It also comes out in different parts of your body attacking you in different ways. 3 weeks of abx is rarely enough to cure it. And you might have coinfections so you should be monitored by someone that really understands what to look for and how to treat it. It will save you a lot of money and misery in the long run to see an LLMD now, and when HE says you are cured, you can trust his judgement.

Hi tpup and nefferdun,

I believe you know it's gone when you are symptom free for a substantial amount of time, at least that's what happened in my case.  I don't need a test to prove that I feel great (though I was accidently tested and I was negative).

I don't believe in the word cured just as there isn't a cure for the common cold.   I believe in remission as I think most everyone has some lyme bacteria in their bodies and depending on the person's immune system and other variables the lyme may cause problems or never cause problems.

Since you caught it early and are feeling great, just enjoy life!  I believe attitude plays a huge role in this disease.

I would also get a second opinion. If you didn't get rid of the lyme and you wait then it may get to a point where it causes you more pain in suffering, or even cannot be cured. I hate to tell you to spend extra money, but personally, knowing how i feel now having never been treated at the begining (whenever that was!), I wouldn't wish it on anyone. If you can stop it from making you have life suffering then I would do it.
Good luck!

Hi again tpup,

Just curious, are you detoxing at all?  Sometimes if our bodies don't detox the leftover dieoffs, that alone could cause unpleasant symptoms.

I should try to find the post about detoxing as I believe that detoxing plays a huge role in getting better.
