I have this. In the beginning (first few years) all of my sesnes were all super-hyper. I too had never experienced anything like that, and on top of being told "it's all in your head" for over a year and a half, it really scared me. But I believe this is common with Lyme disease.
My hearing was so accute, I was hearing things that others couldn't.... I've told this story before, but here it goes again; I was hearing a mosquito (in the middle of winter) in the den of our home. I would look around and "swat" at nothing. It made me crazy for days.... until one evening when my husband said he could hear it too. Turned out to be an air filter in a vent that was just a little off center and it was vibrating everytime the heat came on. My hearing was so accute that I was hearing a high pitch vibration. I also had auditory hallucinations.... marching band music that I thought was coming from the nearest high-school..... but no such music existed. Recently I tried to go to the movies (I haven't been to a movie in years). We went to see Inglorious ******s. I barely made it through the previews (by then I had napkin pieces stuck in my ears). I made it about
15 minutes into the movie and was almost in tears, it was too loud and I left for a few minutes, as I was returning to the theater my husband walked out and said "I'm not putting you through this"... he also said it got pretty gory and he could see I had been crying. And then on the way home I cried, because we never go anywhere because of this stupid Lyme disease.
I also had several months of super-hyper smelling. I could smell spaghetti sauce which had been made days earlier... onions were almost unbearable. The smelling thing has gotten better I also could not tolerate air-conditiong. It felt like icicles being stabbed into me. We live in FL and I was wearing sweatshirts. Now I have the opposite problem, I constatntly sweat and am too hot. I have the air on 71 degrees and a fan blowing on me.
Now I refer to it as sensory overload. I cannot tolerate an assault on my senses. Biggest problem now (besides sweating under my boobs - WHICH I HATE - WHO WOULDN'T?) is when too much noise happens at once. Like having the TV on and having my husband try to talk to me and then having the phone ring.... it's like something has got to go. Now, I have to put the TV on mute to talk with my husband. Just like not being able to "multi-task" anymore... I cannot multi-sense... it's just too much.
