Soooooo,
I have had my grubby little hands on this book for several days now (a week?) & have read a few chapters. At the moment, all I managed to do was get depressed all over again over just being so ill.
There will evidently be quite a large handful of abx, herbal/homeo, supplements, & supportive meds, that I have no clue how we will ever be able to afford it all!!

IMHO - a word of warning to Newbies:
Aggressively seek adequate tx asap!!! Otherwise more & more bodily organs & systems will be compromised.

The book itself is well written, for Lymies who can still read a novel, as the author tried to make the book to read more like a novel as opposed to a question & answer format.

Yeah, I've read "Cure Unknown" and "The Bakers Dozen and the Lunatic Fringe".................. the information is overwhelming and depressing... I haven't been able to "read" a good book for years now.... so for me to get through 2 LD books is quite an accomplishment.... don't know if I could handle another one - lol!

Is the book to which you are referring "Cure Unknown?"

I'm sorry - I should have posted the books' entire name;
"Insights Into Lyme Disease Treatment: 13 Lyme Literate Health Care Practitioners Share Their Healing Strategies"
by Connie Strasheim.

I know what you mean Jelaine, I still do a bit of pleasure reading, but I have had to learn not try to keep track of a plot! Last time I did that I spent almost 2 &1/2 months reading that one book, cause I had to keep going so far back & re-read so much!! rolleyes

I have a doc appt this Thurs & will be handing the book over to him. We talked last time I was there about him trying to use this book to help guide him through treating me. I got pretty excited that he was even willing to consider doing so!! My doc does understand when I tell him no way I could recover from a 500 mile trip (one way) in order to seek out a specialist.

My hope for this book is that it will allow small town docs to treat their patients who show at least the clinical dx for TBI's.

So, Traveler, do you recommend this book? It is one my doctor is reading, but it's kind of expensive, so I haven't bought it yet.

For those who have working brains & the 'extra' money, I believe the book could prove to be a very useful tool. It's a way to understand what your doc is trying to do - instead of just going along for the ride.

The main reason I bought it? In hopes that my gp will be able to give me adequate tx, as the distance that is required to be seen by an LLMD is not something I can do anymore.
I know I'm not in that boat alone!

I go in to see my gp this Thurs. & will be 'handing' the book over to him so that he can go over the book to see if he believes he can give me adequate tx.
--keeping toes, fingers, arms & legs crossed in hopes that he will at least try!!!

Hey Trav,

Well, I have finally read this post, so it answers some of the questions I asked you on a previous post.

Can you give us some idea of the basics in the book?

Everyone speaks of such depression from reading these books. Is this really so hopeless? Does this new book offer some hope?

Sounds like you have an awesome GP! This is exactly how most Drs end up becoming LLMDs.

Hey +Lyme!! =)
I know just how lucky I am to have found a gp worth his salt!! Althoug I have no misgivings as to whether he will become an LLMD - he just believes in helping those patients of his who are determined to improve their health.

As far as the depression a lot of us speak of during or after reading books such as this, I believe it's because you get a real sense of just how ill you really are & the length of time it will require to make a marked improvement - not to mention the whole financial aspect. And who knows if a non-LLMD, who is brave enough to try tx, will stick with it!

Here's a quote from that book:
When Dr. Ronald Whitmont was asked: "How many remedies are required to bring about a cure?" - He answers with - "This depends on the case. Sometimes one remedy is enough to do the whole job, but I have also seen extremely complex cases that have required multiple remedies used in succession. These cases often involved patients who had been mismanaged for many years with suppressive abx therapies."

This might just be the biggest fear we all have...

As I couldn't do a better job of describing this book than CALDA - please copy & paste this addy into your web browser to read!!!!

http://www.lymedisease.org/news/lyme_disease_views/192.html

Of course I will post what my results are with my gp as we go through txs trying to figure out what will work.

One thing I wasn't sure would be printed in the book - and is - is many actual abx, homeo/ herbal meds each of these docs will use in an effort to help bring about health to a Lymie. I only hope that if my gp gets stuck - these docs will be willing to share more info with a doc that's trying to treat us.

Okay - too much thinking!! Brain going into mush cycle again!!

If your doctor is open to reading to learn about Lyme, another book my doctor has and suggested to me as good to read is The Lyme Disease Solution by Kenneth Singleton. I like this book because there is a lot of information on inflammation (my long-time enemy) in it, and it even includes an anti-inflammation diet.

Thanks Willowrose!!
If my gp takes all of this to heart & still wants to treat me, that'll be the next book I buy!!!

Has anyone used plant stem cells for their tx? In the chapter on Dr. Sheehan, she speaks very highly of these. How they are very broad spectrum in their use. She also points out that, because

they are a stem cell (From plants only), there is a much smaller daily amount used & not as many different extracts needed - as opposed to using the adult form of the herb.

My back-up plan -- in case my gp believes even with the help from the book, that his is still waaaay over his head with all of this -

is to make contact with an "Alternative" doc over in the town next to us (that's only an hours drive one way for me). I'm hoping that she will agree to use these products with plant stem cells!!!

This book is still a definitely good read -- when ever my brain will cooperate!!!!!!! rolleyes
