Hi there,
I was admitted to the hospital over a week ago with meningitis and found out that Lyme's Disease is what caused the meningitis.  I was in the hospital for 4 days and am now home with IV therapy for the next 4 weeks.  I have read on here that I shouldn't go to a Infection doctor but she is the one that saw me in the hospital and until I find a Lyme's dr in my area I am going to her today to see what happened to me and what is going to happened to me.  My question for you all is what questions do I ask her?  I am so new at this and there is so much information out there that I am soooo confused.  Anything you can help me with is appreciated.  I have to leave here at 10 a.m.  Also if any one knows of a good Lyme's dr in Southern Md/DC area I would appreciate you letting me know so I can get an appt as soon as possible.  Thanks everyone!!!

Hi Suz,

Welcome to the forum! I'm terribly sorry you had to experience Meningitis. I'm glad that they caught Lyme Disease as the culprit though.

It's okay to see an ID if they are Lyme Literate. You want to make sure they follow ILADS guidelines, NOT IDSA, so that you are on treatment long enough to completely eradicate this bacteria.

You will want to make sure that your doctor checks for co-infections. Most of the time, anyone infected with Lyme Disease has one or more co-infections as well. The co-infections to test for are babesia, bartonella, ehrlichiosis, and mycoplasma. A tick can transmit these as well.

Here is a great site to read before you go to your appointment. It explains the dosage amounts
of antibiotics you should be on after coming off of IV. Again, make sure your doctor follows the
ILADS guidelines. 28 days of treatment is not long enough. If your ID doctor does not want to
treat you longer, find an LLMD!

You can email our long time member Ticker for an LLMD doctor in your area. Here is her email:

Good luck!

P.S.- If anyone else has any suggestions, please post them.
